We had the good fortune of connecting with Liam Stewart and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liam, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a “creative” career because it is what fulfills me. I’ve had many of different jobs such as: Realtor, Software Developer, Restaurant Manager, Barista. All of which paid the bills, but always left me with the feeling that something was not right and or was missing. Behind the camera is where I belong.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Everyone’s art is different. I don’t necessarily think about what “sets me apart” from others, I just continue to hone my craft and focus on capturing the emotion of the moment. I’ve gotten to where I am today professionally by developing my skillset, and by nurturing the connections/friendships I’ve made in my industry. Working in the creative space isn’t for the faint of heart, there are ups and downs like any career path. I learned early on that I needed to develop thick skin(resilience) to handle rejection, and how to collaborate with other creatives(be open to others ideas). There is nothing special about my story, I am just a guy who picked up a camera and told myself I will never put it down.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you were to spend a week long trip here, I recommend hitting these spots:

Coffee:
Timeless

Food:
Ebiko (Grab n go Sushi)
Shan Dong (Chinese)
OK’s Deli (Bomb Deli)
Marufuku Ramen

Hang spots:
Lake Merritt
Golden Gate Park

And if you’re hanging with me, we absolutely have to see a show at The Fox Theater. It is my favorite venue by far.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe this shoutout to my brother George Clarke of Deafheaven. He and his band have really given me the opportunity to do what I love by allowing me to tour with them and provide media coverage. He’s believed in my ability since day one, and has always been there to support me in my creative endeavor.
