We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Zizzo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsey, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Perpetual mindfulness, gratitude and confidence. Your perception and thought patterns affect your energetic vibration which ultimately influences what you attract into your life.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Joylin Naturals is a clean skincare and holistic wellness company that is focused on simple, effective everyday solutions to elevate a natural, mindful lifestyle. The most rewarding part of running Joylin is knowing that we ensure authenticity and transparency behind our products and brand, and are constantly innovating and improving the consumer experience. We are a family business, and we treat our clients and our collaborations as such. In addition to bringing my mother’s dreams to life, I also wanted to bring a brand to market that would collaborate with those who genuinely care about our products and our story. Every relationship is an effort of human-to-human connection, which also results in honest reviews that is crucial to understanding the consumer’s journey. The intimate feedback also helps us to constantly evolve our offerings. Currently we are focusing on collaborations with other healers and artists to expand our self care sector. From a product perspective we are working to ensure that all of our packaging is as sustainable as possible while retaining the effectiveness. From a personal point of view, starting a business is a beautiful mess full of ups and downs – but the loyalty to your craft and determination to succeed is what will set you apart. Working in the entertainment industry for years prior to Joylin taught me that nothing defines who you are as a person – at the end of the day, all you have is yourself and your integrity, which means much more than a job title. My biggest piece of advice is to work hard, stay true to yourself, remember kindness is NOT the same as weakness… and if you are doing your part, the universe will always work it out for you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Itineraries have never been my strong suit – I am very much a free spirited human – but I do love a good meal! A welcome picnic on the beach coupled with an intentional meditation moment never fails to make someone smile. I personally spend a lot of time in Malibu, hanging on the beach or stopping by Moonshadows for a waterfront meal. For a quick road trip I recommend going up the PCH to Ojai (Ojai Olive Oil has an amazing new tasting room) followed by Santa Barbara to go horseback riding on the beach (SBBeachRides is the best) and a night at Bacara. That said, lately, my favorite activity has been sitting in my backyard with a fire pit, s’mores and my dog, Mila. It’s the little things in life.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
None of this would be possible without the JOY to my Lin, my mother Melanie. Her middle name is Joy, so the company is quite literally an ode to her. Around the time I moved to Los Angeles she was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease and, although under Doctor’s orders, began rapidly declining. She took a leap of faith and dedicated her life to finding natural alternatives, and a decade later I am lucky enough to have her still here to co-create a holistic line to share her remedies with the world.
