Meet Linhao Luo | Architectural Designer & XR Product Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Linhao Luo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Linhao, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been deeply interested in spatial design. In addition to working in physical architectural spaces, I’ve also been drawn to the possibilities of virtual environments. There were two main reasons behind starting my business in this field.
First, I believe virtual space dramatically expands the boundaries of traditional spatial design. It opens up new creative possibilities — in form, and function, and in breaking the physical rules that limit the real world.
Second, virtual spaces offer a much more accessible experience to people worldwide. Unlike traditional two-dimensional content, immersive XR (VR, AR, MR) experiences are richer, more engaging, and naturally more shareable. That’s why I decided to focus my business on designing virtual spaces and creating XR content.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Building ARcana3D and pursuing XR design has been anything but easy. What sets us apart is that we’re a team of true builders — and that’s something I’ve always held onto as a core value throughout this journey.
We’ve witnessed major waves of XR technology evolve — from HTC Vive to Apple Vision Pro and beyond. Every new leap in tech excites us but also brings a sense of uncertainty. Innovations mean new opportunities but also new challenges and competition.
If there’s one major lesson we’ve learned along the way, it’s to always return to our core: the passion for creating meaningful work. We enjoy immersing ourselves in the process and crafting experiences that move people. The right opportunities eventually follow when you stay focused on doing good work.
That’s what I want people to know about us — we’re builders who care deeply about what we create.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting, I’d definitely take them to Griffith Observatory — it’s a classic LA spot with incredible views and cosmic vibes. I’d also take them to Culver City’s Hayden Tract, which is filled with cutting-edge architecture and creative energy.
The Getty Center, designed by Richard Meier, is a must — not only for the stunning architecture, but also for the art exhibitions and the way the space itself becomes part of the experience. We’d visit The Broad, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and maybe even stop by the Conrad Hotel next door for a relaxing break.
Throughout the week, I’d guide them through a journey of architectural spaces — places that offer more than just physical form. These environments create emotional, sensory experiences that leave lasting impressions. For me, exploring the intersection of space and feeling is what makes a trip unforgettable.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to give a big shoutout to my parents and my friends. My parents have always been incredibly supportive and encouraging — they’ve respected every decision I’ve made and have always stood behind me. My friends have also been a huge source of emotional support, especially during tough times.
I also want to shout out the University of Michigan. The forward-thinking courses and inspiring professors there gave me early exposure to spatial design and XR, and really helped guide me onto this path.
