We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Whitmore and Heather Hitt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa Whitmore and Heather Hitt, every day, we learn about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Our business is brand new but our friendship is 15 years old. The inspiration for our partnership professionally was born of everyone’s Covid lost year. When things were cooling down we started doing some shoots together using ourselves as models to just PLAY. We played with make up, styling, lighting , everything.! It was completely liberating and reminded us of when we were young and falling in love with photography and art projects in college and just experimenting making something beautiful to us. We have worked together over the years and helped each other out on shoots but when we had no clients and started brainstorming with concepts it started to dovetail with our individual pandemic experience. We both came to the universal message of 2020… CARPE DIEM! The original series cry of “follow your bliss “which drew us to art in our youth. We partnered to have a place for us to only do what inspires us. Even the concept of partnership was inspiring. Seeing the same thing from two different artists eyes and so the idea for our business was born! A studio specializing in transformational fantasy portraits. We consult with the client about what aspect of their personality they want to explore and how to visually represent that. We work with talented make up artists and we style and create a set / world for them to inhabit. Then we each shoot our client in different styles. Lisa works with elaborate studio lighting in an experimental and playful way. Heather prefers natural lighting, and emotional closeups. The entire shoot is meant to be a truly empowering and joyful experience for the client.. We are so excited that the world is waking up from our collective dream. We invite you to our studio where you can rediscover your beauty and have an amazing day with us.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are both parents and have been working to balance bills and stay creative for many years. It’s a tight rope that we have each fallen off many times. Sometimes taking jobs just for the money , sometimes working at things we love too long for free. The biggest lesson that life has taught us about art is: Do what inspires you or you will get burned out. The muse will leave you high and dry. Joy in your process is the lifeblood of all creativity. It’s why we all love to create art. It’s what we all love to see in others art. Human connection, spirit and love – it’s the stuff of life. Honor those things! Our lesson learned and our business mantra.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are so lucky to live in one of the most vibrant and diverse cities in the world…..Los Angeles! Our top haunts and favorite place for people watching and live music is the original farmers market. It’s been around since 1934 so truly historical by California standards. EB’S Bar is a perfect old school dive bar with live music on the weekends, while the newest addition- Market Tavern is a top notch rock n roll British pub, also with live music…. ( notice a theme)? Also fun bars of note Blue Collar ; craft cocktail perfection, El Carmen; old-school Mexican bar specializing in craft Tequila cocktails, Tikiti: tiki cocktail fabulousness.
And then to the beach; Santa Monica’s Annenberg beach house is the perfect beach to relax , swim at the pool and have lunch. The Malibu Reel Inn on Sunset for a casual fish dinner. Then up to Topanga Canyon for a hike and some shopping at Hidden Treasures thrift shop .
For the art lover The Getty Museum offers lovely views, art , and dining.
City life, gorgeous beaches, and beautiful mountain hikes… lucky us!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
