We had the good fortune of connecting with Lolita Penn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lolita, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think taking risk in life challenges you to become a stronger person In a good way. In anything you do, whether it’s chasing a dream, owning a business or working a 9 to 5, you must believe in yourself enough to put yourself out there for the world to see. Modeling for me has challenged me to exercise faith like never before. In order for designers and brands to see me I had to take a chance on myself and show them what I am all about as a model through casting calls, auditions, or social media. In order to get something you always wanted you have to something you never did. You must take the risk and go after what you want in life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been a plus size model for over five years. What sets me apart from others is the presence of power and versatility that I exhibit in the art of modeling. I’n every project that I do I make sure to present myself with class. I got to where I am today with, faith, confidence, and persistence. I believed in myself enough to go after my dream. I consistently invest in my craft by educating myself of the modeling field. At times it’s not easy but through prayer it helped me to stay clear mentally to be able to pursue my goals. I’ve learned that you must believe In yourself in order to keep going. I want to show the world that my brand helps plus size women who looks like me to embrace themselves no matter what.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, In Las Vegas there are so much beautiful scenery. The first place I would suggest is Fremont Street Experience. It’s located in downtown Las Vegas which consists of casinos, restaurants, and entertainment. They also have zip liining. The strip have light shows at night you can watch. The street performers on Fremont street are so fun to watch. As far as eating, I recommend John Mull Grill for the best barbecue and Chicago Six Wing for the best wings.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank a couple of people for my current success. First, I would like to thank Michelle Braboy of Michelle’s House Design because she gave me the opportunity to walk in my first fashion show. Next, i would like to thank Jessica Milagros and MsNickee Mack for your beautiful mentorship; because of these ladies I have strengthen my modeling game. I would like to give a huge shout out to my modeling team Melanated Modeling Agency and Academy for the strong support. Last but not least, I want to thank my spouse Jon for the support and tough love.
