Meet Loren Guiney | Candle and Self Care Product Maker and Mom

We had the good fortune of connecting with Loren Guiney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Loren, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson that my business has taught me is that never let anyone try and stop you. Never let anyone talk down to you about who you are as a person or business owner. People will always try to get in your head and make you think that you are not good enough or built to have a successful business, or even a business at all.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
So, I have two businesses which I have featured before called Loren Loves. I hand make candles and other self care products including beard oils and body butters. I started this business back in 2020 when I was a military wife and wanted to make my own money. I had to stop when I became a Mom in October 2020 and had some health issues. Around 2021, that’s when business really boomed and I was getting orders left and right especially large wholesale orders for a friend’s business. It was not easy to start and stop, but in 2022 I gained plenty of new customers and referrals who loved my products.
In 2023, I moved on to print on demand business which I have now recently shifted to BloomThruMotherhood, which centers around Black motherhood and motherhood in general. I plan on donating proceeds to programs such as Autism Speaks, Sickle Foundation and programs that provide pre-eclampsia awareness for Black and Brown women. When I first launched the POD business, I was all over the place, but I am grateful to finally be sticking with one niche.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Most of my friends know the area since they are from here, but I actually prefer to host at home. I am a classically trained chef and my love for cooking will never leave me. So depending on the kind of night we’re having I’d make tacos or my famous cilantro garlic chicken with rice and beans, home made salsa and margaritas..
If I had a friend visiting from Georgia, where I graduated from Spelman College, I would definitely take them downtown to Las Perlas, The Santa Monica Pier and Simply Wholesome.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my female ancestors for allowing me to be a part of their legacy. I also would like to thank my son who is only three, but he has no idea how grateful I am to have him in my life. Last, and certainly not least, the women, especially the Black women in my life who have held me down and have supported me in my journey. My best friends of almost 20 years, Janelle and Kelsie. They know how much I’ve gone through a lot in the last four years on top of the pandemic. Every single person that I have thanked has helped to mold and shape me into believing in myself first and foremost as a human being, but also as a now single Mom and woman.
