Meet Lorren Chiodo | multi-instrumentalist, producer, and performing artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lorren Chiodo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lorren, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
No other path was going to bring me happiness, or fulfilment. Nothing else made me feel as deeply, or think as inquisitively, or expand my consciousness as broadly, as living a life of artistry.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
A year ago, I saw Daniel Caesar at the Hollywood Bowl. I love his music and his artistry, and the whole time I was watching all I wanted to do was be up on that stage with him – a common feeling among creatives I feel haha. Realistically, there isn’t always a sonic space for saxophone/flute in the music of artists I love and aspire to work with, and I realised in that moment that if I wanted to be on that stage, I had to shift my thinking, and provide something that could align myself with these sonic spaces and artists in a unique way.
As a result, I developed what I’m calling “Lorren’s Universe” haha. Through a combination of FX pedals, analogue synths, and patches controlled by my (bedazzled) digital saxophone, I provide artists with the ability to have auxiliary parts, synth lines, textures and sound design elements played live, instead of just burying them in tracks. Essentially, my world on the stage exists to provide organic textural FX, sound design and production, in addition to saxophone and flute parts, solos, etc. And by working closely with Roland and Eventide Audio, I’ve been able to incorporate some incredible gear and customise unique sounds for various projects.
I was given the opportunity to do this on tour with UMI last year on Jhené Aiko’s “The Magic Hour Tour”, of which I’m so grateful. Working as a touring musician in this way has given me such fulfilment and inspiration to develop my artistic consciousness, and I look forward to working with many more artists! Who knows, maybe it will all come full circle and I’ll be able to play with Daniel Caesar haha (half joking but actually 100% serious. If by some insane chance he sees this… thank you for the inspiration, the bowl show was amazing, I’d love to work with you omg).

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In no particular order, but all absolute essentials…
* Hike Fryman Canyon
* Porto’s
* Camel in Los Feliz (get their “signature camel coffee”)
* Drive up Angeles Crest (high revs and whip the corners)
* The Getty (pack a PB&J)
* An early hot yoga class
* The Studio City Farmer’s Market (have breakfast at Joan’s on Third while you’re there)
* Build your own sandwich at Gjusta
* Stories Bookstore in Silverlake (solid cup of coffee and good reads)
* I would say Greenblatt’s Deli in West Hollywood if it was still open (RIP best pastrami and pickle)
* Laguna Beach day trip
* The Green Man in Burbank for all your metaphysical needs
* Pasadena Sandwich Company (veggie supreme but add roast beef, thank me later)
* In-N-Out (duh)

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Given the unfortunate and chaotic start to the year we’ve had, I’d really like to shoutout Los Angeles as a city, and as a home. Thank you for the community you’ve allowed me to build through my artistic pursuits. Thank you to the people and friends you’ve introduced me to, and supported, who show me incredible love and generosity in the ways I need most. Thank you for the sunshine, the laughter, the freedom, the limitless potential, and the opportunity to chase and embody my wildest dreams.
