We had the good fortune of connecting with Love Fool Podcast and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Love Fool Podcast, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We wanted to create a safe and thoughtful space for women to tell their stories, especially the ones we often feel we have to keep buried. We are a feminist comedy podcast about self love and relationships of all kinds. Each episode feels like a philosophical ladies night (with a few inappropriate jokes in between). If you’ve ever wished that Mae West and Glennon Doyle had two gorgeous, ginger babies (and let’s be honest, who hasn’t?), you’re going to love this podcast.
As Elaine Welteroth says “there’s so much wisdom locked up in the stories that women don’t tell”.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Laurel – I’m the creator and one of the co-hosts of Love Fool. I’m a writer, comedian and actor. As the focus of the podcast shifted, I was going through a lot of life changes, as I’m sure we all were when quarantine had just started. I was watching an interview with Elaine Welteroth and she said “there’s so much wisdom locked up in the stories women don’t tell” and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. I was really struggling personally and so I decided to use the podcast as a way to really check in with my friends, and to reach out at a time I felt so isolated.
Amie – I’m the other co-host of Love Fool, and I am also a writer/comedian. I’ve been on so many first dates I’ve lost count. I joined this podcast as a way to commiserate with other women about their crazy dating stories, but the strength and character of our guests is way more interesting than any Hinge date. Doing the podcast helped me remember that I have hobbies outside of dating that I really enjoy.
What sets us apart from other podcasts is our connection with the guests and the way that we take deep things apart in a humorous way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We live on the west side of LA and absolutely love it here, so we’d definitely start in Venice. The Venice Canals are my favorite place in the city to simply walk around and enjoy being outside. One of the great things about LA is how diverse the different parts of the city are so no matter where you go, you’re going to find something cool and special that you won’t find anywhere else. There’s a cafe in Silverlake called Cafe Tropical that has truly the best (and strongest) coffee I’ve ever had in my life and the guava pie there is to die for. If my visitors are a little more magically inclined I’ll also take them to the House of Intuition while we’re over there. They have a great shop and you can have your tarot cards read, if you’re so inclined.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We’d really like to thank all of our amazing guests that we’ve had on Love Fool so far, we truly admire them so deeply. We’re so proud to know so many brave, thoughtful, and inspiring human beings.
