We had the good fortune of connecting with Love White and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Love, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The creation of a more natural and holistic approach to hair care came from my own frustrations dealing with a multi-decade long struggle with hair and scalp issues. Itchy, flaky scalp due to dandruff, and frizzy, dry, brittle hair that would split and excessively shed, had been problems from an early age. After years of trying every possible natural remedy with no success, we went a more commercial route. Turning to medicated, dermatologist recommended, professional, and over the counter products, lead to the development of allergies to synthetic, chemical ingredients often found in many formulas. Fast forward to years in the essential oil industry in Formulation, Education, and Business Operations along with a Bachelors and Master Degrees in Clinical Psychology and Public Health; my personal focus became developing an easy to use, natural AND effective option for those with sensitivities, birthing Love & Snow. Our hero product, the Restorative Hair and Scalp Serum initially developed for personal use, was shared with others who saw results, and began to request product. The decision was made to develop a business focused on helping individuals achieve healthy hair and scalp regardless of thickness, texture, or condition. Love & Snow is inclusive, providing effective positive results across ethnicity, age, and gender. We are excited to have added new additions to the line including the Intensive Hair and Scalp Tonic and 100% organic Bamboo Silk Pillowcase. These purposefully curated additions further support healhy hair and scalp care crucial to addressing persistently dry, over processed, and damaged hair as well as stubborn scalp troubles that needed extra care.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
As a Business Owner, free time has been dramatically reduced over the years, but when there is time to get out an enjoy time with family and friends I’ve found some fun spots. The Griffith Park Observatory has amazing views, is a fantastic museum, and has some great show experiences. Hiking in Griffith Park is breathtaking. During the summer months outdoor movies with Cinespia make amazing memories. Beach visits to Zuma or up the coast to Santa Barbara have you falling in love with the state every time. A few spots that are must visits for the food, beverages, experience and ambiance include La Casita in Bell for amazing, authentic regional Mexican; Mama’s International Tamales in L.A. for phenomenal pupusas and platanos; Agra Cafe in L.A. for an Indian experience that feels like home; and some of the best ice cream from Mashti Malones in Hollywood. Hot and Cool Cafe in Leimert Park offers great food and a cultural experience that fills the soul.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The success of Love & Snow is most definitely the result of a collection of support. My Mother and Bonus Dad David have encouraged the vision of Love & Snow from the start. Whether it was visiting local events to lend their support, spreading the word from the early days til now, or listening to my ideas as they were in the developmental stages and giving feedback, their love and support is never ending and so appreciated. My long time Stylist Karla Daniels asked me over and over again about starting a business around the serum for years after I had tabled the formulation of the Love & Snow Restorative Hair and Scalp Serum (years before the name came to be) following the 2009 Recession. When I thought I had hung up my business hat and would return to just sharing product with family and friends from time to time, Karla’s relentless questioning in hindsight was the Divine nudge to move into a greater space seven years later. Friends and family who lent themselves to the first visual presentation of Love & Snow as the development of the inclusive vision of the line was coming together. Providing real feedback, their real experiences, real routines, photographic direction, and more. Amplifying the message of Love & Snow with the purest love for myself and my dream. Araxi Lindsey, knew Love & Snow before it was Love & Snow. Supported and believed in product and has been graciously and selflessly supportive. My appreciation for her runs deep. The first Love & Snow retail partners (and they are still partners today) created space for the brand to be introduced to a wider audience and grow; provided support that would be a dream for any indie brand; and over the years have become more like family than connections in business. The Healing Center in Culver City, CA, Nigel Beauty Emporium in North Hollywood, CA, and Salon Benders in Long Beach, CA will always hold a very special place in my heart. Finally, the life blood of Love & Snow and who fuels every move we make, our customers. There are no words to express the humble gratitude for each individual who has spoken with us; shared their story or hair, scalp, or skin concern; chose to trust Love & Snow among the sea of so many other products we are all repeatedly bombarded with; and shared their heartfelt thank yous and results. This is truly what has ALWAYS kept us going. Being a Founder of an indie brand is hard, perpetually exhausting, and full of constant needs to pivot; Love & Snow customers have always been the best and whether each individual knows it or not, is the fuel that keeps us going.
