We had the good fortune of connecting with Lucy Simonyan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lucy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Miray Collections started as a passion project that turned into philanthropy. The idea to start my own business came from love of traveling and finding unique jewelry and accessories that I am not able to find in department stores. Today Miray Collections curates more than 40 designers of Armenian decent from around the world, who make one of a kind jewelry and accessories.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a senior tax accountant working in public accounting firm in Los Angeles. I love numbers. But I am also very passionate about art. I am one of the elected Cultural Arts Commissioners in Burbank. In 2019 I founded a jewelry business called Miray Collections, which curates more than 40 designers who make unique jewelry and accessories. What makes Miray unique are the individual artists behind each piece represented on the website. As with any chosen path, owning a business takes a lot of patience, hard work and consistency. My goal is to connect US consumer to pieces of jewelry that they would not have been able to have access to, unless they traveled to Armenia, over 7,000 miles away.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would start with having breakfast at Basecamp on Riverside in Burbank. Go for a walk and window shopping along the cute vintage stores in Magnolia Park. Have coffee at Urth Caffe and enjoy the view of beautiful downtown LA from Griffith Park Observatory.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my parents who showed me what hard work looks like by their own example and encouraged me to get higher education in whatever field I preferred. In my case accounting. And of course to my fiancé and daughter who support me through long hours of work.
