We had the good fortune of connecting with Lukas Cuman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lukas, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is to trust your feelings. Everyone should trust their feelings and follow what it gives them some positive vibes and energies. When you feel it, that’s probably going to be the right thing to do in your life. I am extremely lucky that this coincides with my biggest passion, the music. Couldn’t ask for more ! Making music with different people almost every day, having fun and having to possibility to pay the bills doing this it’s an incredible dream coming true and a real blessing. The other important factor is to never give up. I know it seems a platitude, but when you give up you will never achieve your goal and if it would be easy everyone will do it!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I come from a little village in Italy called Sandrigo not too far from Venice. I grew up playing guitar and drums since I was 7, starting at the parish with some friends and later on at some local festivals with our actual band. After graduating from High School, having always been fascinated by sound, I moved to Milano where I found a small school with an Audio Engineering Bachelor program and I fell in love with the technical side of the music industry. I spent 3 years there studying and working at the same time, while always keeping in my mind the big dream to fly to LA. In Milano I had the opportunity to stay side by side and learn from some of the best Italian producers, composers and engineers. In 2020 I finally decided to move to Los Angeles to attend the Certificate program at Musicians Institute, I completed it with honors and I also became an Avid Pro Tool Certified. Can you imagine moving from a little village in the countryside of 6 thousand people to a huge one like LA? Nothing was easy man, plus I knew nobody here. Just the fact the if you don’t have a car, and I didn’t have one, you have to walk for 30 min just to reach the nearest grocery store it took me awhile. Everything is so expensive here, I mean there would have been thousands of reason to go back and stay in my town. But I really wanted to do it and I like to find new ways to challenge myself and that’s what drives me to do better each day.
I started searching for jobs and internships position as soon as landed. One day I met Saverio “Sage” Principini, Italian record producer and songwriter. He works with some of the biggest Italian Rockstars, Popstars and many American bands. He has this magical studio in Los Feliz called “Speakeasy Studios LA” and after some meetings he asked me to join his team. Now I am the main Engineer of the studio, it was a dream coming true, for real. It’s an actual speakeasy from the late 20’s at the basement of this big Villa at the top of the hills. The house is of Vasco Rossi, the most famous Rockstar in Italy. Sage kept almost everything as it was, just some acoustic soundproofing in the vocal booth and in the control room. It’s unique in LA, that’s why many singers and songwriters prefer to come here to make music instead of the same commercial recording studio in Hollywood. In the last month we had Chance The Rapper, Bebe Rexha and Vasco himself so I can’t be happier.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man! I’m not sure a week trip in LA is enough and I still have to visit a lot myself, but I can try. I’d definitely bring them to Manhattan Beach, Santa Monica, Venice Beach and Malibu. Next day hiking at the Griffith Park and Hollywood Hills so I can also show them the magical studio in Los Feliz. In-n-Out a few times for sure and then we can go to Beverly Hills and West Hollywood to have something more sophisticated and classy. Can’t skip the Universal Studios and Downtown.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First my family for sure. They are supporting me since day one, and I love them, for real. My girlfriend too, she has been always to my side and encourage me every single day, even if we are staying thousands of miles away from each other during these months. Last but not least my Life, for giving me all these opportunities and experiences I can learn from and get better.
