We had the good fortune of connecting with Luke Ring and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Luke, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Most times people are so unaware of how much work you need to do that you’re not getting paid for. Networking with clients, building a website. Marketing on social media. All of these things take so much time to figure out and accomplish. Most people think it’s simple by a camera and you’ll have clients but it’s not you have to take months of building a portfolio.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Cinamet Studios is a company I cofounded with my best friend at 18 yrs old. We want to be filmakers and film producers when we are older. It’s definitely a challenge being way younger than a competition but in a way we have an advantage. We know what kids want to say when it comes to working with people our age in that case we have a huge advantage. Due to the fact that we’re starting young we also have a lot of time to learn before we really need to start making money to live on our own. We are three months in to having a commercial film/photo company and have been loving every minute. We knew what we were doing almost immediately as we started in early June. We ran a YouTube channel together for two years (SukaProductions) posting weekly videos having to write scripts, learn camera angles and lighting and how to constantly be working on the next product. Without that we would be lost and definitely would not in the same position we are now. My dad (Mark Ring) from an early age would film movies with us and is actually the owner of the editing software I use today (Final Cut Pro) he has a passion for filmmaking and in the next 5 to 10 years will be making a huge impact in the film industry. His writing is some of the best stuff I’ve ever read. Without him I wouldn’t even have this passion.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Having friends visit for me me and including them in films and the production world. I won’t be worried about where we’re going to eat or what we’re going to do I would just wanna create with them.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Dedicating this to one person isn’t possible. I’ve had way too many people in my life support me. But due to the fact that this is only a one person feature I want to dedicate it to my business partner Sam Bredeweg. Sam is always there when I need help doing something I can’t do. He never complains and always is willing to hear my ideas and go with them. He works extremely hard and never even considers giving up.
