We had the good fortune of connecting with Lulu Benavides and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lulu, what is the most important factor behind your success?
When I moved to Los Angeles I was nineteen and I really believed I was going to get discovered by someone and my career was going to sky rocket from there. Soon enough I realized that was not the norm when I walked into my first callback for a HBO Max Show and all the girls auditioning looked just like me. At the beginning I was very scared because I realized the industry I was entering wasn’t an easy one but that was the moment I realized this is what I always wanted to do so I pushed myself. Most importantly I decided not to wait but instead create opportunities for myself, that I think has been a big part of why I have become successful in my industry and open many paths of new opportunities for myself.
I recently was the lead of a Short film called “Margarita” who talks about the immigration system in America and currently I have been cast as the lead of another short that talks about mental health and I am very excited to be a part of.
Lastly a very important aspect in my sucess is my drive. As mentioned before being an actress has been a lifelong dream and no matter what happens I always find a reason to keep pushing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Moving all the way from Peru, being an international in this country our options here are very limited so as I am very proud that I have been able to make it in this industry by creating my own opportunities and instead of waiting for other people, I go look for the opportunities.
I am a big believer that my perseverance got me where I am today, In these past years many things have happened that could have made me give up but my goals were stronger than those challenges. Everytime I face a challenge I give myself 1-3 days to be upset and then I create a plan on how to move forward.
A few of the biggest lessons I’ve learned this year is that you have to be your biggest fan, you have to believe you can do it and you have to be commited to making it happen. Nobody is going to do it for you, you have to go for it and make it happen and lastly believe that it is possible and you’ll get far.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I always be grateful for my parents for always supporting me in this journey, To my first school in Los Angeles AMDA (The American Musical and Dramatic Academy) for teaching me to perfect my craft and do my job with so much passion and to all my actor friends who always encourage me and inspire me to never give up and no matter what keep pushing.
