We had the good fortune of connecting with Madeleine Curry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madeleine, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Manhattan Beach, California and my dad is a professional working actor. I grew up seeing him on tv or hearing his voice on the radio and knew that I wanted to follow in his footsteps. I started out performing in pay to play musical theater but soon became very serious about pursuing acting as a career. My dad helped me get signed with an agency, CESD, and before I knew it, I was working my first ever professional job on a Time Warner Cable commercial with none other than my very own dad. He has inspired me so much when it comes to my passion. He instilled a remarkable work ethic in me, convincing me of the importance of training and consistently taking classes to better my technique as a performer. And most importantly, he helped me learn to keep fighting in this brutal industry. There’s no use giving up when it’s something you love to do and can’t live without. I can push through the rejection and trust that the right jobs will land with me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It was certainly not easy getting to where I am today, but I wouldn’t change any of it. All of the rejection and pain of being recast or losing out on certain job opportunities has added to the beautiful bank of emotions that I possess. Every experience I can learn from, good or bad. Being in acting classes consistently and striving to become the best actor that I can be has helped give me a confidence in my capabilities to assure me that the right jobs will find me. In this industry, it is not always about your talent as a performer. There are countless factors that go into booking a job apart from your skill. But I stay true to myself. I am honest, I live truthfully under imaginary circumstances, I live moment to moment, and I listen to connect to others. I care deeply about other people and how I can help heal the world.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Manhattan Beach for a beach day and walk them around the downtown area. I’d take them to my favorite coffee shop, Coffee Cartel, and go for a drive on PCH with the loudest music and windows down. If they wanted to see the Melrose area for shopping, I’d drive them there. And finally I would take them to see a show at the Pantages or the Ahmanson at night and we’d get dinner beforehand at Poquito Mas.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My acting teacher, Lea Floden, is the person I attribute all of my training to. She has helped me become a better actor and human in this world and has exposed me to numerous techniques of acting. She is supportive, encouraging, honest, and beautiful inside and out. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her.
