We had the good fortune of connecting with Madison Martina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Madison, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea of Kamari Swim a few years ago, but honestly it has always been something I’ve wanted to do. Inspiration for the swimwear brand began at an early age for me– growing up in Florida, I practically lived in a swimsuit, which initiated my love for fashion and swimwear. I always styled my Bratz dolls, but their wardrobes offered limited swimwear options. So as a kid, I grabbed paper, tape, and scissors and started creating my own swimsuit creations. You could say I haven’t looked back since. I’m proud to have developed an idea and designed every piece from Kamari. Swim, offering women a sultry and multi-functional swimwear line of swimsuit styles and coverups available in bold colors and tropical prints. I’ve always wanted to create a swimwear brand that was equally sexy, confidence-boosting and happy.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I love all things fashion and have developed a successful modeling career in this industry modeling for SKIMS, Kosas cosmetics, Phlur, Guess and of course my own swimwear brand– Kamari Swim. I’m passionate about what I do and I’m grateful for my career as a professional model and being able to grow and scale my luxury swimwear brand. Having a great support system and team along the way has been monumental for me in building a great career and business. You can’t do it by yourself. And by consistently making smart business and investment decisions along the way, I’ve been able to prosper and grow. Hard work, gratitude and a positive mindset is essential to overcoming any challenge life throws at your. I want to do good in the world and bring happiness to others through fashion– that is my ultimate goal with Kamari Swim. Empowering women to feel beautiful, confident and happy is the ultimate win for me and if I can do that even a little bit via fashion, then I’m a happy girl. Do what you love, work hard and the money will follow.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Craig’s in West Hollywood is one of my favorite restaurants. I’m pretty relaxed and lowkey- gym, beach, dinner and beautiful weather here in LA is all that I need when I’m hanging out with friends. A ride down to Malibu to enjoy the views and weather is also a great vibe.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom is for sure my best friend, core support system and has provided me with the foundation and support to develop a great career in modeling and fashion swimwear design. She is my biggest inspiration and without her, I am not sure where or who I would be. She has the biggest heart and sweetest soul and has been there for me through the ups and downs that life has thrown at me. She always encourages me every step of the way. The fashion and entertainment industries can be tricky and overwhelming and having her by my side every step of the way has been so important. Everyone on my team calls her my momager and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Everything I do is because of her so I definitely want to dedicate this to her and show my love and appreciation for her.
