Meet Magen Grays Makeup Artist/Creative | I paint faces

We had the good fortune of connecting with Magen Grays Makeup Artist/Creative and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Magen Grays, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I write everything down. Everything Lol….. I like to write so I can visualize what I want in my life. I feel if you don’t write it down it won’t manifest. This is the most important thing you can do a creative. Yes I am a makeup artist but I am also a creative in all things I put my hands to, from Creative Direction, Cooking, Writing, Music, Singing and Designing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Hard work and networking. I sought out to be the best in my field and I continue to educate myself so I am the best. Plus being and African American women adds 10x more pressure to have no flaws. NO!!!! this has not been easy. A lot of people don’t realize I am a single mother of 4 beautiful children. As an artist/creative I work hard because I actually love what I do. There have been times where I had no money, food, or a place to stay chasing my dream and manifesting what I want for my life and my children’s lives. I am not ashamed of it by any means, It just made me go harder. WHEN YOU HEAR MAGEN GRAYS YOU KNOW YOU WILL BE WORKING WITH THE BEST…. What I had to go through to get to this point in my life’s made me the artist I am, who is still going through different trails and still fighting my way through. And yet it’s beautiful. I just know and see what my outcome will be and I am truly excited for the world to see it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well ,I live in Long Beach and love it here. Our first stop would be too a few of my fave spots in the city Long Beach Taco, Make Collectives, and Recircle Home. I would cook on of my fave dishes ( I am somewhat of a lil chef) and catch up on what is going on in our-lives. On the weekend we would drive to El Matador Beach and spend the day in the sun. I am a nature girl i love the beach and outdoors that will always be in the plans.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There is a list of people I could shoutout right now but I will stick to my top 3. I have it broken into groups: 1. My mother Marjorie Grays. My Superwomen. She is one of my true inspirations as a mother she has shown me what a true mother is.
2. I have two friends/sisters/family that I call for all things life and business related. Melissa and Bethany. These two women have bee in my corner for years. Melissa is the Olivia Pope of business my fairy god mother and fellow Aquarian lol. Bethany and I are both makeup artist and when I need advice on just simple things I call on her to guide me in the right direction.
But also i can’t leave out my makeup family: James Vincent, and Shelly Taggar for always supporting everything I do.
