We had the good fortune of connecting with Magician Tatiana and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tatiana, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I grew up in a family primarily dedicated to the sciences and engineering. Both of my parents were chemical engineers. However, it became clear to me at a young age that I enjoyed engaging in creative expression based on the activities that I participated in. For example, as a child and teenager, I practiced singing and drawing, participated in the school theater, put on puppet and dog shows, and demonstrated card magic tricks for family and friends. Although my parents had careers grounded in hard facts and numbers, they were happy to see me explore my creative side as a hobby. However, my parents never viewed artistic work as a potential career path for me as they believed that getting a degree in a formally recognized professional discipline was a must. So, I began my academic career by studying hotel and restaurant management. I continued studying hotel and restaurant management for about six years in two different countries. As soon as I completed my studies, I then pursued my creative passions as that gave me an opportunity to fully express myself and perform work that I enjoyed and found personally fulfilling.

I pursued magic as a profession because I realized at one point that my strongest passion was practicing magic, mentalism in particular. I don’t know the reason why or how this passion developed but mentalism piqued my interest from day one. I love all types of magic but mentalism is the only practice area I wanted to learn and delve into further. My parents were initially skeptical of my decision to pursue magic as a profession, but they eventually came around to support my career path and creative endeavors.
I have been performing magic for about 7 years now and I absolutely love it. I consider myself to be living proof that one can have a successful career as an artist even if that person was not necessarily raised with an artistic upbringing.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a female mentalist, which makes me a bit of a rarity in the world of magic. Mentalism is a subset of magic that deals with the art of reading minds, which is not often associated with or practiced by women. I believe that performing mentalism allows me to stand out from other magicians and adds an extra layer of mystery to my performances. People are naturally drawn to the unknown, and I think that my ability to tap into their thoughts and emotions is something that is deemed fascinating by the masses. I am proud to be a female mentalist, and I hope to continue to break down barriers in the world of magic.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely show my guest around Hollywood as I’ve been living in different parts of Hollywood for about 11 years now. I would first introduce them to the Magic Castle, which is a private club established for magicians and their guests. The Magic Castle has a beautiful castle-like exterior and a Victorian style interior. I consider the Magic Castle to be my favorite place in the world where the best magicians perform. It is a unique and distinguishable place with no analog.

In terms of dining, I would recommend that my guest dine at Yamashiro. It is a Japanese restaurant with stunning views of Hollywood that has a nice ambiance and atmosphere. So, it’s great for tourists. I would also recommend the legendary steakhouse, Musso & Frank Grill, which has been around Hollywood for over 100 years and proclaimed as Hollywood’s oldest eatery. The food is delicious, and maintains a very “classic Hollywood” type of vibe. Finally, I would recommend the Formosa café for my guest. It’s a small, intimate bar that has been a Hollywood staple for decades. The bartenders at Formosa are considered some of the best in the industry. I hope this helps!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Brian GIllis, one of my first mentors, played a strong role in the development of my life trajectory. Interestingly, Brian was Johnny Depp’s favorite magician. Also, of course David Copperfield, as he is considered a living legend in the profession of magic.
