We had the good fortune of connecting with Malcolm Alexander Brinkley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Malcolm Alexander, what role has risk played in your life or career?
A friend told me recently that people only regret the leaps they didn’t take over the leaps they actually took. And on the other side of the risks we take are some of the greatest rewards. On the other side of every risk I have taken with On The Brink and beyond, has been some of the greatest breakthroughs for my growth. The most painful or scariest part of risk taking is the process of abandoning the outdated thought processes that guided previous decisions. Whether shooting my shot at larger profile interview subjects or choosing the topics and stories I want to share with the world are risks from where I am standing. The hardest part of the execution for me is fighting the negative thoughts that are trying to keep me comfortable. And there is NO GROWTH IN COMFORT! Embracing and truly believing in the reality that there is something better for me is not easy but one of the greatest opportunities God gives us to choose into a better life. Risk have played such an impactful role in the On The Brink brand. Choosing daily to follow the entrepreneurial endeavor that is building my own media brand is as large of a risk as I can take right now. But I am so happy in the trenches everyday alongside other fellow artists and entrepreneurs making monumental strides in disrupting and adding authenticity into the current media landscape.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My ears and my eyes are what make my brand of storytelling unique. Every DJ mix, every conversation is a story. There is a building action, a climax and a falling energy that I intend to take my audience on a journey through. I am most proud of the people that I have been impacting through my entertainment career as a DJ, Host and Journalist committed to making the world better through music and conversation. Nothing in life was promised to be easy nor hard – I am just grateful to have a story and be able to share it with the world. I’ve learned on this road to let love in when you can. Angels can come in many forms so a constant lesson for me is to never block my own blessings. You have to be willing enough to ask for help as an abundant being!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I would have to start at Long Beach’s own “The Breakfast Bar” where delicious food and thee party will start bright and early in the morning! Then to burn it all off we will have to take a bike ride around Long Beach along the bike trail so we can take up some sun and the scenery. I adore how active Southern California is, so after the bike ride I would want to go hiking in Palos Verdes. And after that we can get some fried fish at Anne’s Fish Market in Carson! Supporting Black Business is crucial and Anne’s is so good and one of my new obsessions! In any other circumstance I am sure I would have going to a concert at The Observatory in Santa Ana apart of the night but alas the pandemic. But we could easily round out the night on Pine Ave with drinks.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The city of Long Beach deserves the recognition! I moved here during the pandemic, by the grace of God and I am forever grateful because it has placed me closer to my family than I have ever been in my life. Blood family and chosen family! Like my big sister Amber and little brother Jamal who are everything to me. But also every local artist and entrepreneur that continues to push their talents and art into the world. And thank you to my amazing and incredible talented girlfriend, Victoria for standing with me and unconditionally supporting my vision and purpose. The team that keeps pushing myself and On The Brink to the stratosphere – Marcus Aurelius, Kelli “DJ Kaaos Jones” Boyt, Lorylaine Espinosa, Paige Herbert and so many more! Special shoutout to the guest of the newest season of On The Brink – Reggie Becton, DJ AK-47, Vega Of The Valley, Ozgun Tumer and Josh Leung!
