We had the good fortune of connecting with Mandy Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mandy, how do you think about risk?
You never know where risk taking may lead you! I’ve had the opportunity to experience things I never would have imagined and none of that would have happened had I not just gone for it! I’m an experience junkie and I always imagined coming to the end of my life and being able to remember all the great things I did or places I saw and experiences I got to have in life and not instead say…”what if?’ My take on taking risks is to not be afraid to fail. Have a sense of humor about yourself and don’t take yourself too seriously. I have failed miserably many times but I’ve also won some. Failure is inevitable when you are brave enough to follow your dreams. There is a great quote by Paulo Coelho – “There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure”
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always been fascinated and enamored by all aspects of the arts. Which is why, whenever I’ve had the opportunity to try something new in the performing field, I’ve taken it! I love learning the new skill and then trying to conquer it …sometimes successfully, sometimes not. I started out as a dancer which lead to being a dancer with robotic skills and improv comedy. Improv comedy lead to more acting which lead to musical theater shows which included singing. I was in a four part harmony group, Irish Dancing group. I learned the bass guitar and started singing and playing in bands. I am also a SOVA winner (beating Kate Winslett) and an Audie nominee for narrating audiobooks. Now, I’m still narrating audiobooks, playing in bands and also teaching Bollywood dance classes… why? because it’s so much fun!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
You have to take them to Aroma cafe in Toluca lake of course! And you have to do the tourist spots like the Chinese Theater, Griffith Park Observatory and the Hollywood sign. How about even something cheesy like the Star Tours? I’ve never done that but I’d like to. There are so many beautiful trails and I’d take them to the one above Descanso Gardens in La Canada. The foothills, by the way is my favorite part of Los Angeles. I’m fascinated by old Hollywood and would love to take them to visit some of the old hotels downtown LA. Then just eat at some of the oldest establishments in LA like Philippe on Alameda and have one of their famous French Dip’s. Canters for a Pastrami sandwich and a good old Pinks Hot Dog experience!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my mum for encouraging me to follow my dreams. My sister Camme Tyla a talented all around performer/humanitarian/entrepreneur for being my biggest cheerleader and my boyfriend David Blasucci who is an insanely talented musician for believing in me, and pushing me to be better.
