We had the good fortune of connecting with Marco Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marco, every day, we know how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Starting Spektator was a natural progression of my passion for music and art. At the time I wanted a platform that could showcase my own music and artwork. Beyond that it was a great creative outlet in terms of sound and visual identity, something that wasn’t just about trends but about energy, friends and authenticity.

The logo for the label is a simple snake illustration that can represent many things but to me it’s seen as an outsiders mentality. For those who don’t conform with the norm and carve out their own path. Rebirth, independence, and mystery.

It’s about embracing being different, and being unapologetic about it. Standing strong in your individuality.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Im a DJ and producer going by the name Spiderwrap based here in Los Angeles. My sounds are more focused on high energy techno.

Growing up, art was always a huge part of my life. As a kid, I was constantly drawing, taking art classes, and finding different ways to express myself visually. Music was just an extension of that and what better way to combine both than a label where I can produce my own music and design my own cover art for my release. It all naturally evolved.

I started label named Spektator back in 2018 and it has now grown to have over 20 artists from all over the world with more on the way.

Getting to this point wasn’t easy. The music scene isn’t always the most forgiving, and building something from scratch takes time. There were moments of doubt and lots of financial struggles. But I kept pushing forward, relying on the people around me. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that consistency is everything. you have to keep creating, keep putting yourself out there, even when things aren’t perfect.

One thing to take note is that I don’t consider Spektator a success, at least not in the traditional sense. To me, success isn’t about numbers or recognition; it’s about the influence it has on people. Proves that you don’t need major industry backing to make an impact and It can inspire listeners to explore deeper, more experimental sounds rather than just consuming mainstream trends.

Spektator isn’t a big, flashy, profitable label. It’s a raw, underground platform built on passion, not profit. Every release is driven by pure energy and creative freedom, not by what’s marketable.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe a lot to my friends that inspired me to keep moving forward with music and art. Giving me honest feedback and showing up when it mattered. Whether it was streaming my music, brainstorming ideas or just being there when i needed it, their support has meant everything.

Beyond that, the underground community has been a huge influence. The risk takers, who build something from nothing inspire me every day. Spektator wouldn’t exist without that energy. This journey isn’t something you do alone, and I’m grateful to be surrounded by people who believe in it as much as I do.
