We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcqui Blvck and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marcqui, what are you inspired by?
Life and the interactions of souls. We often forget that as humans we need to connect and learn that’s how we advance. I find that so inspiring that people go out and live and connect and grow yet still there’s so much to learn
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I experience music differently, my process is more of a cerebral experience. I don’t just attack a song without a vision in mine. sometimes I just hear something and it makes me go stupid and I’m dissecting different parts of the songs or parts of the sound to make something completely new. Some of the challenges was back home growing up I didn’t really have the support of my peers in my age group, I had support but from the older generation which is not a bad thing ,it’s more you know when you’re 17 you don’t want someone 45 being like a man your dope , you want someone that 17s saying your tight . What I’m most proud of is knowing who I am in this world at 27. A lot of people don’t know themselves and get lost in the sauce. I however was born in the sauce and had to find myself a way out. One lesson I’ve learned is that it’s very lonely when you are trying to pursue anything remotely different from the norm, you will feel out of place and you will lose friends but the ones that are meant to be there and ride for you will be there and ride hell or high water.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to roscoes because it’s a staple to the city. ( definitely try the grits). The Broad if it’s open I’m not to sure. Locke and key Sunday nights for the vibes. Brunch at Blaqhaus( catfish or the shrimp). Hit the pch for some oysters. DISNEY!, because I haven’t been yet so it would be a great experience. It’s baseball season so dodgers stadium is a no brainer. Hit the dispensary and make sure the day ends on a high note.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shouts to mom for bringing to piano lessons and having music be a shining force in our home. Shouts to my family for supporting and sometimes being the driving force in why I continue to push harder. Shouts to me for always believing in and never giving up on my self and craft.
