We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcus Canady and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcus, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Canady Leadership Group helps the community by training managers and supervisors to lead in a personal manner with a caring and empathetic touch. The manner in which we train people to lead others is by truly getting to know their employees as people first versus solely as workers. This type of leadership, focused on creating trusting relationships, allows people to lead the whole person. It increases employee satisfaction, retention, and truly creates an emotionally safe environment for everyone. When that happens, employees feel comfortable sharing personal things that are impacting their mental state while encountering things at home or in the neighborhood. This increased trust and dialogue between the leader and the person impacts the overall well-being of people. It increases cultural awareness when people feel comfortable sharing how they feel during the racial tension following the George Floyd murder, Asian hate during the COVID pandemic, or the Israel/Hamas conflict. Intrusive Leadership creates better workplaces by improving the interaction and dialogue amongst people. People become better in the conference room and then return to their community as better advocates for improved relations in the neighborhood.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Canady Leadership Group specializes in leadership development and consulting. As a result of publishing the first and only book on this specific leadership style, I have conducted training sessions and keynote address through the Armed Forces, Federal Government, and private corporations. The book is entitled, Intrusive Leadership: How to become THAT leader, and it is available on Amazon.

So far the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive for each presentation with positive comments from diverse audiences. This is a leadership style that people want, but unfortunately not currently getting. Canady Leadership Group is dedicated to changing that!

The dedication for changing how people lead people was birthed out of my own experience in the military and being around some amazing leaders. I was fortunate enough to encounter leaders that were very intentional in building an authentic relationship with me and that had a lasting impact. Sadly, these leaders were the exception and not the norm. The Canady Leadership Group is focused on creating amazing leaders in every workplace for every employee.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Every good day starts with a good breakfast so I would take them to Busboys and Poets in Washington DC. After breakfast, we would head towards the National Mall because living in DC you have to take visiting guests to go see the sites. Eventually we would end up at the African American History Museum for a quick tour. This amazing Smithsonian requires more than one day but I would definitely show my best friend some it to make sure then plan to come back. After seeing the museum, I would take my friend over to Arlington National Cemetry and the 9/11 memorial at the Pentagon. These are two things that people must see to never forget the sacrifice people have made for this country and to serve as a reminder that democracy needs to be protected and freedom isn’t free. The day would end with a steak dinner at Ruth Chris steakhouse in Crystal City overlooking the DC skyline.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my parents first in foremost. They were the first intrusive leaders in my life. They showed me very early in life how to love someone while pushing them to be great and hold them accountable at the same time. Their intrusiveness and their prayers laid the foundation for which everything that I have built lies upon.
