We had the good fortune of connecting with Margot Landen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Margot, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
One thing outsiders might not know about the photography industry is just how incredibly close-knit and supportive it is. While it may seem like a competitive field, it’s actually more like a big, friendly community. We’re always passing along gigs to one another when we’re double-booked or offering advice on everything from gear to editing tricks. Photographers love to share knowledge and celebrate each other’s successes. It’s like a creative family where everyone’s rooting for one another, and we’re all in it together, learning and growing as we go. It’s a place where competition is friendly and the support is real.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I strive to bring my own personal touch to every job. I believe that the experience of working together is just as important as the final product. This is especially true in wedding photography, where the experience is deeply personal for people. For me, the human connection is key. It’s the gateway to capturing the best moments. So rewarding!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First stop: Malibu! Start by driving up Highway 1 and enjoy a meal at Malibu Seafood. Afterward, take a leisurely beach stroll and treat yourself to ice cream at Le Cafe de la Plage. Next, hike up to Griffith Observatory for the best sunset views, and on your way down, stop by Trails for a delicious slice of pie. If you’re a fan of bagels, swing by Bell’s Bagels in Highland Park and grab a coffee at Kumquat—it’s hands down the best coffee in the city! Don’t miss the Huntington Gardens, especially when the roses are in full bloom. I’m also a huge movie buff, so catching a film at Cinespia Hollywood Cemetery is a must. Pack a picnic and enjoy a movie under the stars, with occasional fireworks shows. For wine lovers, Silverlake Wine’s Thursday night flights are fantastic, often accompanied by food trucks. And of course, no trip to LA is complete without exploring some art—be sure to check out LACMA, The Getty, and The Broad.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today without my mom. I credit my decision to quit my job and pursue photography full-time to her support and faith in my potential. Her love and belief in my dreams have made all the difference. Also, she had incredible work ethic! This has been a huge inspiration, and I’ve learned to adopt and apply that same dedication in everything I do.
