We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Sole Quintili and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maria Sole, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
If you like the person you are or the person you’re becoming, then you are on the right track.
I never wonder if I have chosen the right path or not because I cannot imagine my life without acting: giving up is not a feasible option.
More specifically, I only do what makes me grow: reading, studying, meeting people, exploring new places, experiencing new emotions, facing challenging situations, getting out of my comfort zone… these are all things that make me grow as a person, understand people and the world better, and, as a result, they also make me a better actress. Whatever you do, if you learn something from it, even if it’s not strictly related to your end goal, it’s worth doing.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I learned everything I know at the LA campus of The American Academy of Dramatic Arts. I owe everything to all the amazing teachers and my talented classmates: I grew as an artist but most importantly as a person and I wouldn’t know where I would be today without that wonderful experience.
There have been some minor challenges on my journey but nothing worth mentioning: yes, I’ve been lucky but I also believe if you project positive energy, you’re gonna get positive energy in return; if you believe everything will turn out for the best, it will. Also, there’s no use in complaining: what’s done it’s done, no sense in torturing yourself with it. Just learn from it and move on. Time is precious, I can’t afford to waste it on negative thoughts, I have stuff to do, things to learn.
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that I don’t know anything and I should stop worrying about knowing and controlling my art. It’s art: it’s totally and completely subjective, there’s no good or bad, you just have to work on being the best version of yourself and trust that it’s gonna be enough. I am enough. I’m a 100% myself: the most weird, honest and authentic version of myself. And yet that doesn’t prevent me from playing different characters because all of them are part of me: I pick parts of myself that fit a specific role and then the role itself shapes me and allows me to explore more shades of myself.
Every story I tell is a new experience that shapes my personality.
I am a little bit of a nerd, I’m definitely weird, I love learning and I am so naive I don’t understand sarcasm. I’m passionate, happy-go-lucky, a dreamer and maybe a little romantic; I’m extremely patient, understanding but perhaps excessively spontaneous and honest. I always encourage people around me to be better: I’ve been told I’m annoying. And I totally agree.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Watch the sunset from Palos Verdes.

Dockweiler Beach – enjoy the beach, watch the sunset, have a bonfire with friends, dance, eat smores and have the time of your life.

Spend a day in the Harry Potter World at Universal Studios.

Pura Vita – vegan Italian restaurant in WeHo.

Doomie’s Home Cookin’ – you will not believe it’s vegan (Hollywood)

Ralphs – It’s my favorite grocery store, I’m very fond of it.

Art district – free outdoor museum.

WeHo – you gotta party in at least a couple gay clubs or you won’t have the full LA experience.

Friday Jazz at LACMA – free music, pretty spot, picnic, friends, good time.

Venice Beach – rent some roller skates and enjoy the palm trees. Also, check out the skate park.

Hike to the Hollywood Sign.

Spend a few hours at The Grove’s farmer’s market.

Go to Kalaveras for some spectacular margaritas.

Check out Jatrag and Iguana for vintage clothes and don’t miss the record store Amoeba! (Hollywood)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my family back in Italy, who is helping me financially, to the teachers and staff of The American Academy of Dramatic Arts (LA campus), who made me the actress and person I am today, and to my best friend Annalourdes, who’s been my rock and guiding light.
