Meet Mariah Gonzales | Candle Artist, Owner, & Founder

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariah Gonzales and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mariah, what is the most important factor behind your success?
There are multiple factors behind my success and the success of Magickal Madre. To start off, believing in myself and my brand was the foundation to even starting my journey. Along with that, passion for my craft, patience for growth, consistency everyday, determination to keep going no matter what, authenticity, and building meaningful relationships with my customers. I believe this is what sets me and my brand apart and has allowed me to do what I love every single day.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I make aromatherapy products, such as candles and wax melts, inspired by my craft and love of magick, witchcraft, Halloween, and horror. I take a lot of pride in my creations as I see them as a reflection of myself. I believe scent can be very personal, so I craft my products with that in mind. My candles and melts allow me to make connections with people wether they love the scent, the design, practice their own craft, or just love all things spooky. It took a lot of hard work to get to where I am today and I think the main obstacles were in the business aspect since I’ve never started my own business prior to this. It was a bit of a learning curve but I’ve definitely learned so much and continued to expand my knowledge. The easier part was setting myself apart and establishing a brand that was unique by simply staying true to myself and remaining authentic. Everything else fell into place after that and I’m truly grateful and excited to keep learning, growing, and doing what I love everyday.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would say an exciting and fun place to check out would be Little Tokyo. There’s plenty of great places to eat/drink, unique shops, and cool spots to look at. Some other fun places are Disneyland, Universal Studios, and Museum of Death.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shoutout to my partner, my daughter, and my customers for making my dreams come true. My partner has been one of my biggest supporters when I started my business. He constantly pushes me, encourages me, and supports me. He always does it with the most love and positivity and he’s had a huge impact on my success. My daughter also plays a huge part in my journey and success, She is the main reason why I started my business, without her, I would not be where I’m at today. She motivates me to do my absolute best everyday. She’s always there to love me and show me that she’s proud of me, She is the most important thing in my life and seeing how much my business has positively impacted her life makes what I do so worth it. My customers are also a huge part of where I’m at today. I’ve gotten so much support from them, and I consider them to be a lot like friends. My business would not be where it is today without them. They encourage me, they motivate me, and are the nicest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing, They truly show out for my brand and I couldn’t be more grateful to be on this journey with them.
