We had the good fortune of connecting with Marilynn Maldonado and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marilynn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business was, what is a way to be able to connect with people right now in this time? Food. During the pandemic everyone was developing a new hobby and mine was food. I started cooking for my family, one day my boyfriend suggested that we should sale mariscos. We were kind of on the fence since my mom is in the medical field until she suggested it as well. Once she suggested we went all in.
What should our readers know about your business?
Charolitasplayalarga is a authentic Mexican seafood small business that started in north Long Beach California. What sets us aside & we take pride in is our authentic dishes. We have dishes that come straight from Nayarit Mexico. We have been able to travel to Nayarit and learn authentic recipes that we use today. The process has been extremely difficult learning how to run a business especially a food business. No one in our team has good background so learning how to work together in a kitchen has definitely been a challenge. We never stop learning in the kitchen and we never stop learning how to work with each other. We are a small business that makes their food with pride and hope everyone one day can try a dish from Charolitasplayalarga.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My boyfriend, father & nephew. We are a small team of 4. With out them this wouldn’t be possible. My boyfriend is my business partner in this journey and my dad & nephew do all the behind the scenes work. The preparation, the cleaning, the delivery work. We have been able to develop a system in the kitchen that works for the four of us to work in a timely manner.
