We had the good fortune of connecting with Marina Romashina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marina, what do you attribute your success to?
I would say that the main factor for success is confidence in yourself and what you do. There are always obstacles on the way to your goal. I received a lot of refusals. Some people said that I couldn’t have a career as a model because I didn’t fit the standards or that my work wasn’t serious. But I never listened to anyone, ignored all the negative comments and moved forward. Love for what you do is also one of the most important factors, no matter how trite it may sound. I started my journey myself, I took the first step myself. I didn’t know anyone from the fashion industry, I didn’t know how it all worked. Becoming a model and working abroad seemed unrealistic. I only saw models on TV or in fashion magazines. The dream of trying myself in modeling appeared since childhood. I will say this, the day when I picked up the phone and dialed the modeling agency became a turning point for me in a good way. And after the first shoot, I realized that I was exactly where I was supposed to be. Nothing could stop me. Another important point is the support of family and friends. This is what gave me strength at the very beginning and when it was difficult. I was brought up in a family where they don’t tell you what to do, but give you complete freedom of action. I love my family very much and am grateful to fate for each of its members

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been working as an international model for many years all over the world. I have been to many countries in Europe and Asia and US. I have more than 40 publications in magazines, one of which is Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Harper’s Bazaar, Instyle, Vogue and others. I was lucky enough to work with a lot of wonderful people and brands, including BCBG, Bebe, Hourglass, Chanel Beauty, L’Oréal, Puma, Stradivarius, Mango, YSL and others. Thanks to hard work I got to where I am now. Sacrifices had to be made, which included a lack of private life. I couldn’t make any plans like others do because I always had to be prepared if agency calls me and invited you to shoot. Sometimes it was like this “Marina, you’re flying out to another country tomorrow” so I have to get ready and go. Of course, you could always refuse, but I don’t like to lose a chance and prefer to remain a professional in my field. I have an incredible amount of shootings under my belt, but I never cease to be inspired and enjoy what I do. My work is my great love and I am very glad that I once decided to try my hand at modeling. Was it simple? no it just wasn’t. It’s difficult when you have everything, just leave it and fly to work in another country, where no one gives you any guarantees. My most important lesson is that the comfort zone is where you begin to degrade. You need to stay “hungry” to achieve even greater heights. At least that’s how I feel now

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, first of all, of course, we would go on a hike to look at the Hollywood Sign. Then we would go for a walk in Beverly Hills, and at sunset we would go to one of the observation points to look at the city. This is what inspires me very much. All these big city lights are sooo beautiful. The next day we would go to the ocean, walk a little around Santa Monica area, stop in Malibu and then along the Pacific Coast Highway to San Francisco. This is one of the most beautiful roads I have ever seen. We could visit Santa Barbara and, upon returning to LA, we could arrange a trip to Sequoia National Park. Well, we can always find where to eat, I know all the Italian restaurants in this city and near. Yes, this is my favorite cuisine. Especially pizza

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As I mentioned earlier, I want to say a big thank you to my family, who always supported me and never stopped me from taking my most risky actions, their faith and love mean a lot to me. I want to say a big thank you to my mother agency and every agencies with whom I have been fortunate to work all over the world. Each of them is part of my success. And to all the creative people and clients I’ve been lucky enough to work with, every shoot is important to me
