We had the good fortune of connecting with Marina Stokes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marina, how does your business help the community?
My business is centered around mental health. I am a strong advocate for mental health and reinforce support by creating aromatherapy candles that utilize fragrances that stimulate the brain. A scent that can help ease the impacts of depression, anxiety, and grief. I also host events that empower individuals and build them to follow their own God given purpose.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am not only an entrepreneur but I am an Industrial Engineer for the United States Air Force. I’ve also trailblazers a path in my career for minority women in a white male dominated field. I’ve learned so mouth and helped bridge the gap of difference in my career path. It’s been a benefit for my personally and also helped me grow as a professional to cultivate my own business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would say come to the Oregon district or Wright Dunbar village. The rich history is the heart of Dayton and where so many amazing local businesses reside. You can enjoy the at home feel, community, good food, entertainment, fun, and support local entrepreneurs. Especially go to The Entrepreneur Shoppe at 1109 West Third St. Dayton, Ohio. It is a one stop shop for all your needs with a rich inviting customer service. Everything in this store is made by local entrepreneurs!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout out my godchildren; Journee Newby & Kace Smith, my nephews; Isaiah Worley & Ryan Moore Jr, my siblings; Stacy Worley II, Shelby Worley, Anessa Lovett, and Christian Lovett. The next generation of my family motivates me to lead by example. They are the reason I am driven to change cycles and open doors for mental health through my business Be The Light.
