We had the good fortune of connecting with Alvin Makori and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alvin, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
To me, risk is anything in life that requires faith. With risk, there are always unknowns that remind us we cannot control the outcome of the situation. This can lead to a fear of failure, which we have all felt before. In moments like these, it is important to remember that everything we strive to achieve is on the other side of risk. Without risk, there is no progress, no lessons learned. Taking myself seriously as an artist was one of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken, but doing so has given me so many blessings in return; meeting other creatives, stretching my creative boundaries, and seeing the joy that my music gives people.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I pride myself most on making music that sounds different from the rest. I play around with a lot of vocal layers, ad-libs, and freestyles, which I think results in a more unique sound that merges a multitude of influences. It was not easy to get to my current state as an artist, mostly because of all the visual and marketing aspects that come with the music. Thankfully, I am learning more every day about how to apply these skills to my craft, and I am also reminded by my helpful friends that I do not have to design a creative project on my own. Collaboration is key!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Glad y’all are asking me this because I’m hosting a few friends in Los Angeles this fall, haha! In terms of food and ambiance, West Hollywood is right at the top- Pink Taco is my favorite. Definitely have to go to the beach, too, Laguna Beach in particular. There is just so much to do in LA, you can’t go wrong with a lot of spots.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am nothing without God and my family! Shoutout to my amazing Mom and Dad, my sister Madleine, big bro Andrew, and my wonderful in-laws Amanda and Dennis!
