We had the good fortune of connecting with Mars Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mars, how does your business help the community?
With the onslaught of Transphobic legislature telling Trans people we don’t deserve equal access to healthcare, bathrooms, or sports it is so important that Trans Joy is visible. I created my first Trans Joy is Resistance piece as a shirt in 2020 and it as well as my other custom clothes have received over 4,500 orders in just 2 years. I believe every time someone wears my message in public they are actively fighting Transphobia by leading with Trans Joy.

I have been fortunate enough to do more public art this year through working with local nonprofits like ProjectQ, a nonprofit dedicated to providing haircuts, legal services, food, clothing, and more to LGBTQ+ youth. I painted their space with a 2 buildings wide mural that says “Trans Joy is Resistance” and “Queer Love Exists”. Working with local organizations that help uplift the queer and Trans community is a dream come true and I am so grateful.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a Trans artist and Activist I spread Joy by sharing my art with the world. If I can do that everyday I will always be busy and always be fullfilled.

I’m interested in the beauty of imperfection and the strength of radical honesty. Through sharing my life vulnerably I hope to help folks feel less alone. We are all trying our best and I want to honor that effort. I am most proud of my impact on Trans youth. I get messages from Trans youth telling me that I brought them a little more joy or hope when they are going through hard times and that means so much to me. It was not easy to get where I am, I work 12 hour days almost everyday but I love what I do and I know the hard work is worth it. I want the world to know that you can be successful as an out and proud Trans person. That there is hope for a bright future for Trans youth.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
