We had the good fortune of connecting with Maso and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maso, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking

I actually have no idea how to answer this. I don’t give the concept of risk too much direct thought. If I did, I’d probably shit myself thinking of all the awfulness I could run into. Instead of ruminating on my anxious thoughts, I turn to the people I care about most for answers.

I am nothing without the people I love. So when I think about risk-taking, I think about them. That’s probably my anxiety speaking, but I would be lying if I told you I didn’t want to make my parents proud. These intentions became the catalyst to moving to California and creating my debut album, “For Loving Me.” That was a big gamble for me. How the hell was I going to survive with my family 3000 miles away? Am I even good enough to make music? Was this even a risk worth taking? 13 songs later, and I realized I have never felt closer to my family; I have never known myself more than I do now.

I am also in love with this girl from California so I had multiple reasons to follow my heart. We moved in together and I was forced to be vulnerable in new ways. The next single I’m releasing, “You,” is about wanting to learn everything about someone you’re in love with, even though you don’t like everything that comes out of their mouth. “You” comes out 06.08.2021.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

One time, an ex-partner of mine wrote me a note that said, “You ain’t s**t.” She was right. I am far from perfect. That being said, I am proud of the friendships I have made throughout the past four years of album-making.

I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with people who truly have a special place in my heart: Tim Gamache, Felice, Kyle Brookes, and Mike Zahar. These four people have been around since the beginning. They’ve really been through the trenches with me, while introducing me to insanely talented people along the way like Szabolcs Kiss, Arielle Tindel and Olivia Salsedo, just to name a few. I feel extremely lucky.

My music is collaborative. I know I’d be a fool to think I could create “For Loving Me,” alone. The album itself is about the people I love. I’ve released four singles and two music videos so far!

With every release, I want the world to know that there are people who will love and support you, even when you’re at your worst. Keep those people close. Tell them you love them. Expect them to hold you accountable and bring out the best in you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

I would encourage my friends to get vaccinated before traveling anywhere, and maybe hold off on a vacation as long as they possibly could in order to help put an end to this pandemic. Let’s get together when it’s safe.

In the meantime, I’m hanging out with people in my bubble only. We’re going to Greenwood Shop in Studio City to look at plants.

I’m also the absolute worst planner, I would not be the friend to schedule a trip. Right now, the only thing I’m scheduling is the release of my album. It’s been four long years of holding on to these songs, and I’m ready for them to be listened to. Stay tuned for 07.02.2021.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This album is for everyone who has ever loved me. Thank you.

I am especially grateful for my family and girlfriend. I don’t know how they have managed to be so supportive.
