We had the good fortune of connecting with Matheus Granjeiro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matheus, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
I really enjoy music. I love listening to it, composing it, and performing it. It’s the way it makes me feel whenever I’m sad, or whenever I’m full of joy, Whenever I’m anxious or whenever I’m relaxed, music is always there for me. Hearing music is like my soul is receiving a warm hug and letting me know everything’s going to be alright. It’s been there for me ever since I was a kid.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a pop/folk artist. I do also like to blend or be inspired by other genres. I’m going to release my first full album soon. I have several singles online, but I’m very excited about this upcoming album more than anything I’ve ever done. It’s a true message from my heart and soul to everyone. It’s about struggles I’ve faced in my life. Whether it was love issues, or mental health issues, I just hope my music resonates with whoever is going through the same thing. I grew up in a very privileged family, however, I’ve struggled my entire scholar life. I would only stay “afloat” to pass classes. I have ADHD and struggled with it too. If you told my younger self I would have a bachelor’s degree in music, I would not have believed it. I have a songwriting/production degree from Musicians Institute, located here in Los Angeles. I want to always play with a genuine intention of helping others. My songs are meant to show that no one is alone. There is always someone who has gone through what you’ve been through, so I hope my music unites my audiences in that way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely try to take my friend to as many shows as possible, knowing that he would love that. But also, I would take him to Venice Beach, Long Beach, and show his as much of the valley as possible. Show him my favorite restaurants here, and maybe go to something new, since Los Angeles is full of different cultures and food.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My dad. I’m a musician because of him. Even though he’s not a musician, he has an excellent taste for music. I grew up listening to Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Elton John, The Eagles, Pink Floyd, and etc…My parents were fundamental in my career, helping me whenever I needed help. I owe them everything.
