We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Bravo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matt, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking

Life is all about taking risks. You NEED to take risks and leave your comfort zone in order to grow as a person. In my experience, I’ve had many successes after taking risks but also many failures. That’s just how it goes. But at the end of it all, I learned and grew, and that’s what most important.

Moving states was a huge risk for me, one that intimidates many people. But if you want big rewards you’re going to have to take big risks. If I hadn’t risked it all, I wouldn’t be where I’m at today.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I am a Los Angeles based, social media Content Creator. My creative takes a different perspective because I am not from L.A. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas but spent my last few years living in College Station, Texas. Meaning, I was exposed and used to the big city life and energy but during my college years I was mostly in a farm town. This allowed me to see the beauty in nature but also gave me an itch so see more. So while everyone simply passes by the many murals, graffiti, installations and historical figures in Los Angeles, I get inspired. I got my bachelors degree in marketing and learned that everything has a purpose and meaning, from the colors used to the surrounding buildings around a business. It’s actually quite interesting. I admire everything I see like it’s the finest piece of art and look at whatever it is like it’s my last time. It really helps me appreciate everything around me.

I got where I am today through countless days and nights of hard work. It was not easy because I had no knowledge and no connections for anything as I navigated my life. I got my first job at 15 and haven’t stopped working since. Through college I even started adding side hustles on top of being a full time student, part time worker, and being heavily involved on campus. I was always looking to see what free resources I could utilize both through my school and just in general that could help me get to where I wanted to be. From writing resumes, learning how to send emails, networking skills, to presentation and sales skills, I learned it all through school and YouTube. I wasn’t one that was ever given a car, had a guaranteed job after college, or even had family financial assistance to support me through college, but I found a way to make things happen all by myself. Many late nights and early mornings of my time was spent online, cold messaging and applying to jobs and really just trying to figure out how I was going to succeed in life. The best way my friends were able to support me was just emotionally because that’s really what I needed most through it all.

There are many lessons I learned along the way. Never let anyone tell you what you can’t do. Only you get to decide what you do. Stop letting other people dictate what you do, how you feel, and how you enjoy your life. You will never get any younger than you are today, so take risks and enjoy the ride of life. Stay focused on your goals and never let anything or anyone get in between that.

I want the world to know that I’m coming to take over. I’m going to outwork any and everyone to do what it takes to get to my idea of success. I’ve gotten this far in life on my own by age 21, so often times I think I have a good understanding of what I’m doing, but this is just the beginning so wait until I actually get good. My work ethic and quality of work will show why I’m deserving of being a household name.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love this question. A week long trip is so easy to play because there’s so much. For sure Disney would be one day. A second day would be starting off at Santa Monica pier, exploring town, going to the Venice canals, and ending with a sunset at Muscle beach. Day 3 would have us driving to Beverly Hills, walking rodeo drive and surrounding areas, having a photo shoot through the little parks and ending with a walk on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood. Day 4 we would got to the Broad museum in DTLA, and enjoy walking around the beautiful city, getting some coffee at Matte Black Coffee Shop & then ending with some dinner at Grand Central Market. Day 5 would be a trip to Catalina Islands. We would rent a car and just explore all that the island has to offer. Day 6 would be hitting my favorite local spots in the South Bay such as Manhattan & Hermosa Beach, shopping at Del Amo Mall and watching the sunset at the Trump National Golf Course. Day 7 would be the classic trip back to Hollywood and seeing tourist sights such as the Griffith Observatory and Hollywood sign. My favorite places everyone has to see is West Hollywood for nightlife, Hermosa Beach for cute beach vibes, and then Rave Wonderland and Cosmo’s Glamsquad are the best for unique fashion pieces!! I even included a photo just to show y’all how great Prince from Cosmo’s Glamsquad is at styling people because he really did a 180 with my style and wardrobe. He goes off so be sure to go see him!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out Lisa aka LaPiña. She has supported me through everything with something intangible, love. I don’t make my decisions with money in my mind but rather with the impact I’m going to make. Knowing that there’s people across the country rooting for me to do my best and represent more than just myself is what keeps me motivated. The love won’t change no matter how far I go, it just grows.
