We had the good fortune of connecting with Cynthia Arias and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cynthia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always wanted to create something of my own, something I was proud to say, “I built this from the ground up.” Also, running my own business meant having a flexible schedule. I was determined to live my dream of being both a boss and a mama and not having to have my child be raised by a baby sitter.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Both my sister Alma and I come from a background in fashion design, designing children’s & women’s apparel for Target, Ross, & Nordstrom to name a few. Our 8+ year design experience has helped us transition into event design smoothly. Designing a clothing collection has a lot of similarities to designing events. For example, they both start out with a mood board and require sourcing different materials and fabrics just like sourcing different decor for events.
I would say our style is modern, clean and chic. We strive to create something unique for each of our clients.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My sister, and co-founder of Creative Little Gems Alma Arias is the backbone of our small business. She also has a design background and helps with styling our events and so much more that goes on behind the scenes. Along with my husband Steven Gutierrez who builds most of our backdrops and props. I call them both the pillars of Creative Little Gems. Without them I would not be able to run this business alone. Although they both work a full-time job, they help me run this business part-time or really on their spare time. lol In the near future, the goal is to have them on board full-time.
