We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Buser, Esq. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matt, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is a factor for me every day. Starting my own firm only a couple years out of law school instead of joining an existing firm was a huge risk, but it’s paid off. I now have the autonomy and authority to practice law my way and on my time (despite I devote time every day to my career and my clients). Additionally, each week I take risks on clients that I will represent on a commission basis — whether it’s because the client is brand new and not yet generating income or because the client is established but perhaps has had some difficulties, relationship-wise or business-wise. I enjoy the building process and it’s an honor to say I’m a part of that client’s new movement or reemergence. I love to take risks because I learn and grow from each engagement. I’m blessed to say I never have a dull day, and that I truly am #NotYourAverageLawyer

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I wasn’t given much so I worked for everything I have. I’ve held jobs since I got a position bussing tables when I was 13. I’ve always been in the service business and that’s what I remain in — serving my clients as they grow their businesses and lives. This of course makes me proud and grateful daily. I’ve learned a lot from my career, but one of the biggest pieces of advice I can offer is that there’s more than one successful path to reach your goals, but in order to get there, you have to stay focused, positive and grateful.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a big nature guy and I appreciate what God’s given us, so that’s how we’d start. I would take my friend on a morning hike to the Wisdom Tree, then we’d grab a coffee and a breakfast sandwich at Zinque, head on over to Cookies Melrose after that (shout to Steve Lobel and Berner), we’d grab late lunch on the rooftop of the Waldorf, then enjoy a pitcher of margs at Pink Taco for happy hour, and then head to sunset dinner in Malibu at either Gladstone’s or Nobu. My girlfriend would have to come, too. This sounds too much like a date lol. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shoutout: To my father, as he taught me diligence and attention to detail in contracts. To my mother, as she taught me compassion and how to nurture growing minds. To my sister, as she is inspiring research scientist for the CDC and forces me to be smarter every day to keep up. And to my girlfriend, Laina, as her coaching in mindset and personal development has changed my outlook and helps me through the toughest of times.

Other: Too much to do every day so can only keep up with one platform! However, I’m active on IG and answer my DMs (just give me a day or so, especially on a Monday).
