We had the good fortune of connecting with Mattitude and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mattitude, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
When I was first starting to get into the field, I worked nonstop; I seized every opportunity that came my way and spent all of my free time trying to establish more of a foundation for my brand. It was very rewarding in many ways, but eventually I got started to get burned out. I had continued to put more and more on my plate to the point I was having trouble keeping my responsibilities in line, let alone having any spare time for myself. While I still keep busy, I’ve learned over time that it is important to give yourself breaks and set realistic goals. Not only does this help you stay focused on the task at hand and provide a higher quality service, but it also helps to reduce your stress levels and allows you to be more efficient during the time you do spend working.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I strive for the name “Mattitude” to be synonymous with a one-of-a-kind experience that people know they cannot find anywhere else. In my 12 years of experience as a working DJ, I’ve seen how saturated the market has become…. But so many of them are just like the last. When this is the case, you NEED to differentiate yourself from the pack, and I feel I bring this service to people with the eclectic and creative sets I play. It proves to create the best experience for guests and delivering on that is very important to me. However, it was not always that simple and for a long while my name was not one that turned heads. It took a lot of work and dozens of business ventures (some successful, some not) to get to the point I’m at now. But as I’ve always said, I’d rather invest the time now and be prepared for an opportunity when it eventually does come, than the opposite.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many awesome places in the city and surrounding areas to check out, it’s almost hard to keep track! The Flats entertainment district is a must. Tons of awesome restaurants and clubs down there (Lago, Inferno, MGK’s coffee shop 27 club….). Plus the views by the water are just spectacular. New restaurants are popping up nearly by the day but even outside of those traditional amenities, places like the Rock Hall and MetroParks are an absolute can’t-miss. Cleveland’s culture is so rich and diverse you can do seemingly anything depending on your interests!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Alan Cox. Radio host in Cleveland that presented me with the opportunity to work under him and his show. At just 20 years old, this experience would eventually lead to the origin of “Mattitude” and proved to be an unparalleled platform for me to grow and showcase myself to the masses. A professional on all fronts, he has continued to provide insight to me as both a mentor and personal friend. Shoutout AC.
