Meet Max Irmak Cavun | Game Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Max Irmak Cavun and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Max Irmak, is there something you believe many others might not?
“Do your best” or “you don’t have to feel sad, because you’ve done your best”
People mean well using these phrases. However I’ve always hated the concept. Because doing your best means you couldn’t have done it better. I know that for each success and failure I’ve not yet reached my limit and I can always do better.
“You’ve done your best” reduces your potential into whatever you just did, but I know it is much more than that.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are a new startup that aim to democratize the indie gaming scene by creating this safe space for game devs to have an alternative to the AAA studios.
There are thousands of games being released every year, with the majority of them being indie. However, these numbers do not reflect the engagement because indie devs do not have the resources to drive engagement. Even though (on Steam) they make up 40% of all units sold, it is not an organized field. So anyone hoping to pursue their passion in games seek AA or AAA jobs if they want stability, and we know that through some big name companies that might lead to crunch, harassment and toxic corporate environments.
Our business, FundrGames, is here to offer an alternative.
We are in research and development phase and I could not be more excited for what is to come. Because I know, as an indie dev myself, how hard it is in the field. I know how hard it is, as a women, to thrive in the gaming industry, and I want to change that.
The biggest challenge we face right now is to find the correct people to make this ambition real. We are still looking for as much support as we can get and deal with challenges along the way.
But if there is anything about my business to take out of, it is that we deserve a better gaming industry, and we deserve better games. It is going to be the people that bring this change, and our goal is to give them a platform to do so.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I come from Turkey, all my family and close friends are still there, so I’ve thought about this quite a lot. I think I would show them the food here, especially Korean BBQ at Bulgogi Hut in Ktown, LA. I would show them USC, campus, the gamers here, and everyone in the games department.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents, Mr. Jacob from my high school and my best friend. These people unconditionally believed in my potential even though I grew up in an environment where women and creative people were belittled. They told me you can achieve anything you want and there fore I did, and I will.
