We had the good fortune of connecting with Melanie Jo Dilorenzo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melanie Jo, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
From a young age I knew I would go into music. I would alway be singing and air drumming on furniture even before I picked up the drums. Music has always been my first love.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a professional drummer and what I’m most proud of is I’ve gotten to be the touring drummer for Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top in his solo band, and also getting the experience to play with Slash ( Guns & Roses ) and Nancy Wilson ( Heart ).

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Dirty Monday I go and have played their Monday shows which are now at the Whiskey A Go Go. I love The Viper Room too. My favorite spot to go eat is Little Toni’s, they have great Italian food and also The Rainbow Room.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents they let me pursue music and never told me to get a “real job” Music is hard to make a living in but they have always supported me every step of the way.
