We had the good fortune of connecting with Melendres Twins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melendres, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Habits that come to mind that have lead us to this point include our discipline, consistency, being open-minded, and having a positive attitude. We like to discuss our goals for the month to help each other stay motivated and pro-active. A dancer’s lifestyle varies week by week. It is so important to be consistent with how you put your energy out to others. One of the root causes of success is maintaining a positive attitude. Our attitudes are essentially a reflection of our habits. Through consistency and repetition, we have built an achievable career in the entertainment industry through teaching and dancing.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets us apart from others is that we get to do what we are passionate about together, as a team. It is a blessing to have each other to lean on in such a competitive industry. We both strive for greatness and are constantly learning as students and growing as instructors. We are proud of the lifestyle we’ve built over the years and are thrilled to pursue both our dance and choreography careers. As similar as they may seem, we value both of these passions individually and have collectively learned how to keep a healthy balance between the two. What we are most excited about is our future opportunities teaching internationally and sharing with dancers around the world who share the same love for dance! In the beginning of our dance journey here in Los Angeles, it was was a competitive process signing with a dance agency. After many auditions, we finally landed our first representation at 17 years old in which helped us get our foot in the door to be seen in rooms full of casting directors and prestigious choreographers. Success doesn’t happen overnight! It takes discipline and consistency to get to where you want to be. We are incredibly grateful to have taught sold out classes and it would not have been possible without our constant habits and community.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first stop on the itinerary without a doubt would be going to Priscilla’s Coffee in Toluca Lake. This has easily become one of our favorite spots to get coffee and we cannot recommend their blueberry iced coffee enough. We would then make our way at the Century City mall for some retail therapy and good eats. It’s always a good idea to check out thrift stores here and our top picks would have to be Wasteland or the Sliverlake Flea Market. As Italians who love going out to dinner, we would end the night with scenic views at Elephante in Santa Monica for cocktails and pasta.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our family and loved ones have truly made the biggest impact on our professional and personal growth. They have been supportive of our dance career since day 1. Another shoutout goes to our ever so empowering community! We are thankful for the people that constantly show up to our dance classes who take the time to learn from us whether that’s in a class, session, or performance. Our success is driven from the people we surround ourselves with and have had such a positive impact on our lives!
