Meet Memory Lanez | Recording Artist – Songwriter – Music Producer – Audio Engineer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Memory Lanez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Memory Lanez, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe in the cliché, “no risk, no reward”. Taking risks can be frightening (and to some a financial burden), however, a part of taking a risk in life, is believing in yourself; walking by faith, not by sight. I have always looked at risk in a perspective of, either you succeed, or you learn a lesson; there are no losses. Regret is one of my biggest fears, so I have learned to take every opportunity that comes my way because your blessings may come from the one you least expect. Overall, I still have a lot I want to accomplish in my career, but I enjoy the small “wins” as they come. I never let myself get too high, or too low. It keeps me grounded and hungry for more.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
To summarize, I am a music creative. I song-write, produce, track vocals, mix records, vocal produce, etc.
I am most proud about the fact that, this is something I am genuinely passionate about. I don’t do this for clout, nor for the money; I genuinely love it.
It is definitely not easy, this is a cut-throat business, where most people try to use you and move on, when you no longer serve them purpose. A lot of fake relationships and competition.
If there’s a few things I’ve learned, it’s to keep your moves silent. Allow people to believe whatever they want about you and don’t let it affect you. Lastly (and most importantly) believe in yourself, or no one else will.
I would like the world to know, that when I really make it big, this was most definitely not and over-night success and I have the receipts!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Anywhere that’s a “vibe”; it has to include great food and drinks, then end the night in the studio and knock out a record, or two. It also depends on where I am at the moment: Miami? Los Angeles? Medellin? either way, it would be the same recipe; great food, great drinks, and great vibes.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My first instinct was to name other people who have played roles in my success (which I have done in past interviews), however, this time around, I would like to thank the younger version myself. I was young and hungry. I was dedicated and persistent. I got knocked down, over and over again, and got back up and kept going at it. I wouldn’t take “no” for an answer. I believed in myself before anyone else did, which in return, made them start believing in me; that takes courage and most people at a young age, lack it.
Most importantly, however, I want to thank God because he blessed me with these talents, I’m simply just putting them to use, whilst taking the opportunities as they come.
