We had the good fortune of connecting with Fly Zyah and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fly, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I feel that I help my community and the world in different ways. I feel that I help my community by speaking about things that are going in our community and making others aware of it. I feel like I also help my community by letting the people in my community know that they have to keep looking forward, keep your head to the sky and everything will be alright. I think I help the world by spreading a positive message to be heard around the world. There are so many bad things happening, that I feel like we could use something positive.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a 10 year old emcee, artist and student. I have been rapping since I was two and I love hip hop, I feel that what sets me apart from others is that I am only 10 years old and I am not afraid to fight with my words. Fight for you, fight for me, fight for our rights. I got to where I am professionally because of my parents. They handle all my business and show me how to also, in the process. Even with the help of my parents, it wasn’t easy. You have to hustle, and be dedicated. Sometimes, I would have to choose whether I want to go outside to play or rehearse. My parents always leave it up to me. You have to work for what you want. And I have learned that if you don’t work hard for yourself, nobody else will. I think I am most proud of receiving the DC Mayors Art Award for Excellence in Youth Creativity. It means a lot because I am the first youth to receive the award and I feel like it was created especially for me! I want the world to know that dreams come true, but not without a little bit of work from you.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out my parents. Without them as parents, I know that I wouldn’t be where I am at right now. They are always 100% real with me and are my biggest fans. They’ve shown me how to get back up after falling or failing at something. They have helped me through so many things that other kids say that they can’t even talk to their parents about. I appreciate them so much and I love them even more! They are irreplaceable.
