We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Abraham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
My career journey has been an adventure full of twists and turns, driven by passion, curiosity, and a healthy appetite for risk-taking. It all began with a strong foundation in architecture, earning my Master’s degree from Pratt Institute. My early career was marked by collaborations with renowned firms like Rafael Vinoly and DLR Group, where I honed my skills in designing spaces.
After a fulfilling period in architecture, I was drawn to the dynamic world of digital marketing. This shift wasn’t just about changing industries, embracing a new challenge, and exploring how creativity and technology could come together. Co-founding C/C/G, a digital marketing agency, was a significant leap. Over 15 years, I had the privilege of working with over 500 clients, helping them navigate the complex digital landscape. This experience was invaluable, teaching me the importance of adaptability and the power of innovative thinking.
However, my journey didn’t stop there. My passion for architecture and a desire to make a more direct impact on people’s lives led me back to real estate. Investing in multifamily properties in Los Angeles reignited my interest in the built environment. During this time, I realized the profound impact homeownership could have on individuals and communities, providing stability and a sense of belonging.
This realization was the catalyst for co-founding Hilex Real Estate Group with Ania De Pourbaix. We combined our decades of experience in real estate, architecture, and digital marketing to create a unique platform. Our focus at Hilex is not just on real estate transactions, but on empowering people through homeownership. We strive to set the highest service standards, ensuring every client feels supported and informed throughout their real estate journey.
Taking risks has been a constant theme in my career. Whether it was leaving a secure position in architecture to start a digital marketing agency or diving into real estate investing, each risk was a calculated step toward growth and discovery. These experiences have shaped my approach to business and life, teaching me that incredible opportunities can arise with careful planning and a willingness to embrace the unknown.
Today, I am proud to lead a Hilex Real Estate Group team that shares my commitment to excellence and innovation. We don’t just sell properties; we help people find their place in the world. I’m grateful for this journey and excited for the road ahead, knowing that every risk taken has brought us closer to our goal of building a better world, one home at a time.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit Los Angeles for a week, I’d make sure they experienced the best the city has to offer. We’d start the adventure with a delicious brunch at The Ivy in West Hollywood, known for its charming ambiance and celebrity sightings. From there, we’d head to the Getty Center, where we’d spend the afternoon admiring world-class art and enjoying panoramic views of the city. For dinner, nothing beats the stunning ocean views and exceptional sushi at Nobu Malibu, especially at sunset.
The next day, we’d hit the waves at Malibu’s Surfrider Beach for a morning of surfing. After working up an appetite, we’d explore the trendy Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, known for its unique boutiques and relaxed vibe. Lunch would be at Gjelina, a local favorite for its innovative and fresh cuisine. We’d spend the evening exploring the Arts District, taking in the vibrant street art and grabbing a drink at a chic rooftop bar.
Mid-week, we’d hike up Runyon Canyon to catch breathtaking cityscape views and spot a celebrity. After the hike, we’d relax at Venice Beach, people-watching and enjoying the lively boardwalk scene. For dinner, we’d indulge in Italian delights at Bestia, one of the city’s top restaurants.
A day dedicated to exploring Downtown LA would include visiting the Broad Museum, where we’d marvel at contemporary art pieces. We’d then wander over to Grand Central Market for lunch, sampling diverse and delicious foods from around the world. In the evening, we’d step back in time with a speakeasy experience at The Varnish, enjoying expertly crafted cocktails.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
