We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Anthony Jr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, how do you define success?
To me, success is defined as positive forward movement. If failure is the other outcome, you can only fail if you stop trying. I know that in order to succeed I will experience setbacks and challenges which are beyond my control, but what I can control is my reaction and approach. I focus on positive energy to get me through and place trust in the process that if I keep moving forward, success will follow.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Even though I am a working industry professional, my first love and experience with success was behind the camera. Shortly after college, I started my own show, The MAS & More Show, where I showcased the behind-the-scenes look at the projects I booked. The show was well received and won awards from Turner Broadcasting. I still use the show’s format today for my social media platforms. After moving to Los Angeles, I realized the challenges of landing roles. I continued to pursue acting, but also rediscovered my passion for creating and sharing original content. Based on my experience, I know there can be setbacks with this process because you are solely responsible for the execution of each project. However, I saw it as an opportunity to learn all aspects of the industry and strengthen my own skillset in research, editing, and producing. Through my work, I want to generate content that can be enjoyed by all and makes people smile. My most recent projects – Bits & Pieces Comedy Show, The Super Vegan Experience, and The Vegan Roadmap – were finalized during quarantine and are true representations of the content I want to share with the world. I took an idea and focused on what I thought people would enjoy while being stuck at home and unable to experience the world around them. My shows are meant to inspire, entertain, and give hope that we will soon be able to enjoy the outside world again. All projects can be viewed on my YouTube channel (Michael Anthony Jr.) or my website: michaelanthonyjr.com Spread the love and share content you enjoy. This is what is needed to help uplift entertainment professionals. I encourage all who read this to support independent content creators.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When showing people around the city, I like to use something I call the Trifecta Approach which I have found fosters a well-rounded experience and leaves visitors completely happy. The Trifecta Approach consists of visiting LA hot spots, incorporating some way to be healthy and active, and a grabbing a bite to eat. Here’s a menu of a few of my favorite go-tos: – hiking – LA has some of the most beautiful hikes with incredible views. To see the city, Griffith Park is the place to go. A quick internet search will get you to a hidden swing, ocean views, and private waterfalls. – shopping – Most tourists love to visit the Grove but I prefer to visit smaller shops and walk around. Abbot Kinney (Venice) or The Oaks Shopping Center (Malibu) gets you closer to the ocean and has incredible food options. – water sports – Kayaking or paddleboarding is a great outdoor activity offered all around LA. If you need something a little less vigorous, the Swan boats at Echo Park are always a good option. – eating – If in LA, you need to go to In-and-Out at least once. The hype is real. I am also a huge fan of smoothies on the go. I highly recommend The Oaks Gourmet and Locali in Franklin Village (Hollywood) are great stops when headed to Griffith Park and when you are craving something delicious but a little more indulgent, don’t sleep on Dave’s Hot Chicken.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Above all, I would not be where I am without the love and support of my mother, Lisa. She has always pushed me to not settle. Her belief in me has always been my driving force to create a legacy for which we can both be proud. Additionally, I have an amazing agency who always has my back. Hollywood can be brutal if you don’t have the right people behind you. Thank you DDO Artists Agency for all you do.
