We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael MacLeod and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
There are a lot of people that inspire me.
Through massive injustice and polarised societies, it never fails to impress me that there are ordinary people who rise above and beyond in the way they conduct themselves both personally and professionally. This is what inspires me.
That is not to say that ignoring your own feelings to act “correctly” is admirable, but that – in prioritising what you feel is morally right and what you feel will make a difference to those around you – you will likely feel fulfilled by your actions.
Regardless of whether I agree or disagree with that person’s opinions and actions, I will always respect the effort in trying to do what is right.
The people that approach life like this are driven, generous, and supportive. They all make me want to be a more conscientious person and inspire others in the same way that they have inspired me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an emerging artist, I aim to collaborate and learn from fellow creatives, as well as provide a way for them to be heard. Whether I do this through acting, producing or writing, the primary purpose of my work is to reveal a new way of thinking and living to an audience member.
I am still very much at the beginning of my journey and continue to grow in all facets of storytelling, but one thing I have learnt is that a willingness to improve and a generosity in time and attention to detail will always serve you well. Regardless of how much experience you have, if you are eager to understand the things that you don’t know then progress will be faster and you’ll become more useful and knowledgeable to those around you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them on a hike around Griffith Observatory and to the beaches in Santa Monica and Venice. Driving a little further out to Manhattan beach or Newport beach would also be a great addition to the trip!
As far as places to eat, Takami sushi, Tocaya, and the Watergrill would all be on the list.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My journey wouldn’t be possible without the support of my family, my friends (both old and new), and every person that generously donated a nugget of their wisdom in my pursuit of learning. There are too many people to individually thank, but if you ever took the time to explain something to me, invest in an idea I had, or support me through adversity, I want to say a huge thank you for helping me to stay motivated and to continue to grow as a person.
