We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Schaffer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have been in the entrepreneur space my entire career. I had always believed that I should be able to work on my terms, take vacations when I wanted too and earn as much as I was willing to work for. The traditional job or corporate roles were not a fit for my independent spirit and desire to create leverage. Early in my career, this was what drove me. Every career move I have made has had this as the foundation. As I grew and evolved, my desire to have an impact on the lives of other people became stronger and stronger. I felt not just drawn to it but CALLED to it. I knew that my life could not be about just serving myself and my family. I knew that God was calling me to serve and lead others. In 2019 I felt a call, a loud voice, and a magnetic pull to something. I wasn’t immediately clear about exactly what it was, but I knew that it was about creating a community for women. A lot of people have done that, but this community would be one that I had always searched for, and never found. This would be a place for women like me, ambitious and called into business and creating wealth, but also shared a passion for their faith in Jesus as well. This would be a community where there was no such thing as competition, but instead wild collaborations. This would be a community where women would be encouraged for their faith and their drive, and they would be supported by resources to help them grow. And Girl POwer Alliance was born.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was a teen mom. I had my first child at 16 years old and my second at 19. By the time I was 21 I was divorced with 2 kids, young, no education, and no plan. My journey into entrepreneurship and business, like so many others, has been wrought with trials and obstables. Through it all there has been one constant, my faith. My faith in God has been the catalyst for my personal development, my leadership, and calling. I believe this is what gives me a huge advantage in the marketplace. I am anchored to a different set of rules. I don’t always follow the trends of the traditional business world or the rules of marketing. I am led by my faith and what I feel I am being guided to. I follow His lead, even if that is the opposite of what the rest of the world is doing. This boldness did not happen overnight. I was initially so afraid to allow y faith to lead my words and actions in bsuiness. We are taught to never talk about politics or religion if we really want to succeed. But there came a point that me NOT talking about it, because very inauthentic. I took baby steps at first, I started a podcast, I wrote a book, then a program, and now the Girl Power Alliance community is fueled by faith, mine, and so many others. Being true to who God created you to be is your biggest advantage in the marketplace.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in Temecula I have some favorite spots locally. We have some gorgeous wineries, South Coast Winery is my favorite lunch spot. Old Town Temecula is a fun place to walk around, eat and shop. Another favorite tourist place is the Palm Springs Tram, it’s a stunning trip up and the views are second to none. We bring a backpack and food and hike around enjoying the forest and the desert views. Being that I live a little closer to San Diego, I love to head to Coronado island. There is a bike lane along the entire island, beaches, and the beautiful ocean, A lunch date at the Hotel del Coronado is always a good idea. We are so lucky to live close to so many fun and beautiful places. LA always has the best shows and great places to eat. Mastro’s in Beverly hiss is a date night favorite for me. We are big Disneyland lovers and always stop in Downtown Disney for the best guacamole around ( and that is a big statement) at Tortilla Jo’s.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a huge thanks to the women who are out there right now who are being authentic in their calling. Those women inspire me daily. I have learned a lot from books and podcasts over the years. I have also been able to have a friendship with an amazing woman of faith and business Anne Beiler, she is the Founder of Auntie Anne’s Pretzels. She has been leading the way in business and in faith her entire life. I LIVE to recognize other women for their hard work, honestly, it lights me up. That is one big reason I am so excited about our annual event Activate which will culminate with our Annual Awards Gala where we will be celebrating all women for their impact, efforts, and their contribution. We will hand-select a small group who will receive a special high honor along with gifts and cash prizes. I cannot express in words my excitement for this event and the look on each of the women’s faces as they celebrate with each other.
