We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Terris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
I feel very fortunate because so many things make me happy. 2020 was a tough year, and though I wished at the stroke of midnight in 2021 that Covid would have disappeared, I know 2021 is also going to be tough. These are a few things that have been making me happy lately: being with my husband, taking 7 am work out classes taught by my cousin with some really fun people, mentoring with Las Fotos, my new mattress and air fryer, writing Harry Potter fan fiction (I’m such a dork), dreaming about big production shoots that I’ll someday direct, oh and also daydreaming about going out dancing and being in a room full of people jumping and having a grand old time.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a fashion photographer and director in Los Angeles. I enjoy creating lookbooks to help brands achieve beauty and diversity in their marketing. I really love using color, clothing, and interesting locations to give my photos a nostalgic look and feel. I love working with other creatives to make art together. I want everyone on set with me to feel welcome and heard and I’m always looking for new people to work with so please reach out.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hmmm, this is tough because I haven’t been anywhere in so long and I’m forgetting places…for a week-long trip I think I’d start by going someplace out of town. I would love to take my friends camping to Joshua Tree or some other spot in the desert. I love the desert, it’s so beautiful and the light is always amazing. We’d spend a few days camping and then back in LA I’d take her to Malibu. I love going to the beach and laying in the sun. I’d take my friend to downtown LA and we’d check out The Last Bookstore, which is such a cool place, and then go dancing at Clifton’s Republic. Maybe on my friend’s last day in town, we’d hang out by the park near my house in the valley and grab something to eat from a taco stand and then go to Sassafras Saloon in Hollywood or the Highland Park bowling alley. I like places that are old or designed from a different time. ‘Sigh I miss going places’
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh for sure my husband Michael. He is the most supportive encouraging kind person and he’s cute as hell I don’t know how I got so lucky. He’s constantly keeping me from jumping ship on my dreams and has so much faith in me it always keeps me going.
