Meet Miles Asher | Photographer & Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Miles Asher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miles, what’s your definition for success?
Being able to support myself with my art. I think it’s most artists goal, being able to just wake up in the morning and only have to think about your art. Not about when I have to clock in or if my uniform is clean but about how can I express myself today.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would best describe my photos as atmospheric if that makes sense. I try to use composition and lighting to create images that translate feelings better than I could ever do with words. My work has been described as “dreamy” and I can understand that and really like that description of my work. The idea that there’s some feelings we have that we can’t communicate unless you feel it or sometimes if you see it. That’s what I’m trying to do, trying to say a thousand words with a single frame.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would bring them to the to this place just a few blocks east of broad street called sooooo delicious soul food and then we would sit and eat at the bench near the planned parenthood down the block and heckle the anti-woman’s rights people. Then we would walk west to the Schuylkill River Trail and we would walk the river while getting eaten alive by mosquitoes.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to thank some of the amazing creatives I had the pleasure of meeting during my time creating photos. People like my friend and creative partner Gary Lee Bear and other photographers like my friend Drew Cigna who was really supportive and helpful throughout my journey. I couldn’t do anything without their support and of course the un ending support of my lovely girlfriend Soleil who has been my rock and an amazing second opinion whenever I need one.
