We had the good fortune of connecting with Tenisha Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tenisha, so let’s start with how you started?
I first started my business in 2016 with 500$ I got back from my takes that year. I was living check to check and I was educating myself on financial wealth and decided it was time for change. So I took a risk with the support of my husband and dove in feet first. I was over my head for the first six months because I was using funding from our household and was to afraid to get into more debt but with the support of my community Godi started to turn profit. Godi was never a hobby I had to much at stake for that. Godi was always a dream of creating another stream of revenue while heightening self love and inspiring others.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from the rest is I have really invested time into my community by giving back to the youth as a volunteer and a mentor for over the last 10 years. I have non biological kids all over Sacramento that I still sow into today. I have made a career out of giving back. I’ll soon have my BA in Social Work and I currently work as a Para Educator for a local Character School. Their is nothing else I enjoy more and this the main reason I created Godi Girls. The youth are our future and mentoring this is what inspires me everyday. Having the encouragement from a mentor is what made me who I am today.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite thing to do in my hometown of Sacramento is hiking and fishing. We love the water, especially when we can bbq and let the kids play. That’s my ideal weekend.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I give all praise to first and foremost God. Without God on my side whipping me into shape all these years I don’t know where I would be. I also want to thank my mom for raising me the way she did, head strong, God loving and always determined to make a difference and not just settle. S/o to my first mentor in this world my big sis Marilyn DeVase. And I also want to thank my husband for always believing in me even those nights I wanted to give up.
