We had the good fortune of connecting with Misaki Matsuda Lagos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Misaki, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Since I am a single mother with full custody and no additional support, time is very important to me. I designed my business and schedule to allow me to care for my son; I can’t work a full-time job, but I still need to earn an income. For me, business is all about creativity, ideas, understanding customer needs, and finding ways to meet them. I began hiring people who could support my work, a process that took almost five years to build. Now, I have a flexible schedule and a balanced life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Besides being a realtor, I also help international investors expand their businesses in the U.S. Since I am from Japan and speak Japanese fluently, there are many people who need my services for startups or marketing here in Los Angeles. I am very passionate about seeing my clients succeed. Similarly, in real estate, my job is very satisfying, as buying or selling a home—or starting a business—can be one of the biggest moments in someone’s life, and I’m happy to be a part of it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to some of LA’s trendiest spots—after all, it’s their vacation, and people love capturing memories in cute, trendy places! It really depends on the guest. If it’s a client from Japan missing Japanese food, I’d take them to the top sushi spot, Shunji in Santa Monica, which even those from Japan would appreciate. And, of course, we’d experience a bit of LA’s nightlife, especially in Hollywood! These are experiences you can’t easily find in other cities.
