Meet Misha Edwards | Film Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Misha Edwards and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Misha, why did you pursue a creative career?
I feel like this question is so broad in a sense because I mean why wouldn’t I pursue this type of career. Although there are quite a few Red flags I do feel that my career path makes me actually look forward to growing old, traveling, starting a family, and etc. I pursue a creative career because it comforts me. Being creative is the greatest thing a human can do for themselves because it allows me to have an outlet, even when burnt out. One big factor it teaches me is “trust”, trusting people, trusting my work, and most importantly trusting myself. I do believe producing in the film industry really allows me to really break down what the world is about and what peoples intentions are. Creative people don’t just do creative things, their mindsets are psychological and more in depth and it really takes a toll on ourselves as creatives. There are so many elements to make this perfect picture whether its great for you and bad for them or vice versa, no matter what its the learning experience that makes everything worth it.
What I most love is that as a story teller psychology and Ideology play heavily in work that I do, its truly an honor to have the audience understand what goes on in my head and how I or others perceive things around us. I am someone with a mentality of wanting to stir things up for the better, being another eye opener on society and things that we as people don’t notice or think about. I was called into this industry because of the dedication and honor I show to others. To me everything that makes me feel as a person is something that I am automatically passionate about and I want to help those who think like me put their thoughts to paper and that paper into a film.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Film Producer, and I work on many things regarding short films, music videos, side passion projects, and commercial work. I am most proud of the connections I’ve made on the way and the beautiful projects I’ve been involved in. It brought so many things to life that my friends or newfound acquaintances have worked so hard on. I believe what sets me apart a bit is my overall passion for anything that I work on. I get things done, I never rest, but I am still able to be this mama bear figure and make sure everyone on my set feels safe and heard. I believe that what sets me apart mainly is that set etiquette means a lot to me. I’m working a psychology degree to become a therapist and offer as much as I can a safe environment for everyone on my set. I want to be able, if I can’t change the industry, I have myself and what I can accomplish on sets that I work on. It never messes up the flow and always has been efficient. It has not been a smooth road whatsoever. I struggled to find myself for years before I hit where I am now. I struggled to find myself in certain aspects, but I continuously felt completely and utterly helpless to the fact that I was never a good person to work with or to be in this profession. I was overly emotional and not confident in what I was doing; I had to rely on others to be confident for me. My family helped me as very much as they could; my cousin even helped me pay the loss of my tuition because she believed in me. I wasn’t able to take care of myself and be as strong as possible. Going through severe depression and anxiety and having really bad dissociation. I had some really dark times as I was finding my way. As I practiced more and spoke into the future about myself, it became easier to delegate. I still have these struggles, but I now have better control and understanding on myself, who I am, and who I’m meant to be.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the Pasadena area. If I could live there I absolutely would. Old Towne Pasadena has my heart as well as Urthe Caffe. Some of my biggest opportunities were presented to me there. I love the fashion district of Los Angles as well because both places are truly full of people who are so extravagant and loud and wild. The fashion is amazing and is so outgoing, but most importantly there is a huge variety that I very much enjoy. My favorite spot in the LA area is Woody’s barbecue!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely give a shoutout to my friends and family being there for me through the ups and downs of school and me working all of the time. They have shown a lot of patience towards me and never once made me feel lower for pursuing this creative career path. My church family have also kept me in their prayers as I struggled through this journey and I am incredibly grateful for them. I want to thank one of my friends Laila Burgin for throwing me into her student short as a producer because without that I would have never really gotten that confirmation that this is what I wanted to do. After that short this role absorbed me and I started producing other school projects.
After time has passed I made a really great friendship/connection with Jayden O’Neal and his production company FREEREALMPRODUCTIONS. Jayden and his entire team put trust in me to start helping out on the production side allowing me to grow as a person and a producer. They’ve helped me come a very long way in less than a year and it was a journey worth it. I can say now that i’ve spread my wings and have been able to do other productions while juggling school and always being apart of their projects and it has been a phenomenal thing.
